Literacy Session Wednesday 8th March 2017

We had a very busy literacy session this morning. We had 4 stations with groups rotating around each.

The stations today were:

  • Reading with Mrs Bray, Mrs Anderson or Colin
  • Playdoh – SMUHA inspired!
  • Teach Your Monster to Read
  • Spelling

We had lots of creative galleys to photograph. This was a very relaxing activity and all the pupils enjoyed it.

Thank you to our lovely parent helpers. Without helpers we would not be able to do this each week.

What we think of our literacy sessions:

“I love the surprise activity each week.”

“I like that we get to see our friends in P2/3.”

“We do lots of learning.”

“It is good to do lots of spelling.”

“I like that we can have our parents coming in to help.”

“It is good for Mam to see what we were are doing in class.”

“It is good to have a surprise to look forward to.”

“I love that we all get a turn on the laptops each week.”

Group Research Projects

Primary 3/4 have been working on an ‘Extreme Earth’ topic this term and learning all about weather and climate.

They have been learning how to research and take notes on important facts and information.

They decided on a specific area of research within their group and had a lot of fun taking notes, applying information they had learnt and creating attractive posters.

They all did such a wonderful job!

Symmetry

Primary 3/4 have been really motivated to learn all about symmetry.

It has been a really good maths topic to link to other areas of the curriculum.  In RME we are studying Islam, so we have been looking at symmetrical patterns on religious artefacts and we have designed symmetrical Viking shields in the build up to Up Helly Aa.

We have participated in a variety of different activities, including using mirrors to identify lines of symmetry in shapes and to complete given shapes and pictures. img_8878

Primary 3/4 really enjoyed interactive work on the whiteboard sorting symmetrical and asymmetrical shapes and pictures.  They also created symmetrical patterns which their partner needed to complete.

Here are some of the lego symmetrical designs we created.

19th and 20th December: Random Acts of Kindness

Last Friday, Holly surprised her mum with a lovely tray of goodies. Well done Holly.dscn4168

On Monday, we had a smiling challenge. We had to smile to more than 5 people.  “When people smile at you, it makes them have a happy day.” Emily.

On Tuesday, we were to pick up litter and put it in the bin. Nayana found a crisp packet and a sweetie wrapper in the playground at break time. Nora saw a sweetie wrapper being blown into the cloakroom and Ollie had to chase a crisp packet around the playground becuase of the wind, but they eventually caught their litter and put it in the bin.  Well done to everyone who keep our playground clean.

14th & 15th December: Random Acts of Kindness

Miss Tate hasn’t had her camera out for the last couple of days but the class have continued to be very kind to each other.

On Tuesday the class read stories to their partners. Sianna and Hillel kept this idea up at home. Sianna read to her mum and Hillel read to his little sister.

On Wednesday we tried to say nice things to someone else. Mary told Sianna she liked her jumper, Nora told Hannah she had nice hair and Ryley J told Kayden she was doing well during the Festive 15 Run.

What a lovely bunch. 🙂
