Scottish Book Bug Week 2017

We’ve had a very busy week in P1a taking part in activities to  celebrate books  and the joy of reading.

On Monday we shared an afternoon with our P6 Buddies who read one of this year’s Scottish Book Trust Book’s from our Family Bag.

They read Little Owl’s Egg by Debi Gliori.  We talked about the story then worked together to draw the outside of an egg and the little owl who was hiding inside.

Then on Tuesday we talked about how we enjoy books by looking at the illustrations and reading the story.  We then thought about how other people enjoy books and Corren shared a braille book.

We had a go at feeling the dots with our eyes closed.

And today we have had a very busy afternoon sharing another book from our Family Book Bag with family and friends before taking it home this afternoon.

Gorilla Loves Vanilla by Chae Strathie is a brilliant story and we loved it along with taking part in some craft activities to share what we love about eating ice-cream!

Welcome Back to Term 2

To get our fingers working this morning we’ve been taking part in lots of activities which are really good for strengthening our pencil fingers.

We had threading, peg boards, drawing and cutting.  Here are some of our pictures.

Meeting our P6 Buddies!

We’ve had a really busy afternoon meeting and playing games with our P6 Buddies.

Next term we get to take part in lots of learning activities where our Buddies come along and help us.

Today we played games, drew pictures and got to know each other.

It was great fun.

Practising making words

We’ve been using the sounds we’ve learned so far this term to make new words.

We each got a letter and in our groups we had to work out which words we could make using the sounds.  Here are some photos showing the words we made.

We’re getting really good at making the words and sharing them with the rest of the class.

How to cross the road safely

Mrs Moar visited P1 this afternoon and helped teach us about how to cross the road safely when we come to school in the morning and when we leave at the end of the school day.

We got to look at her clothes and talk about why they are bright colours and how she uses her special lollipop to help the cars see her and the children crossing the road.

Learning ‘s’ and ‘a’

Here are some of the ways we have been practising our first sounds this week.

Making them in the sand.

Following the shape with clay.

Creating the letter using dot paints.

Using whiteboard pens and wipe boards/pictures.

These are helping us to learn the shape of the letter.

We try each activity after listening to the story, learning the action and singing the song.

Sequencing Numbers to 10

This week we showed the teacher that we could put the numbers from 0 to 10 into the correct order.

We worked with a partner to put the numbers in the correct order.

Then we had to either take a number away or turn it over and see if our partner could tell us which one was missing.

Jacob turned two numbers over and Lily May took a number away.

Here is just a small peep at some of the choosing activities we did this week.

We have been learning about class routines, making new friends and getting familiar with our new surroundings.

They show some of the things we enjoyed taking part in.

Making our bees for the new wall display.

Exploring the craft table.

Sharing the toys with new friends.
