The Night Before Christmas

All primary 2 pupils have worked extremely hard preparing for our Christmas Concert.  Many hours have been spent learning lines and songs.  Thank you to Miss Simpson, the music teacher who has helped us prepare for the concert.  Here are photos of the pupils before their first dress rehearsal.

Movement and Mime

Movement and mime activities relating to road safety were undertaken during class teacher gym time throughout term 2.

The pupils worked individually, with a partner and in small groups while using their bodies creatively.

They listened well to the instructions given and gained confidence when performing in front of others.

Houses and Homes

The Three Little Pigs

The pupils had fun building houses using straw, sticks and Lego.  We tested the stability of each house using a hair dryer to represent the Big Bad Wolf.  The pupils predicted what they thought would happen and were proved right.

Lowrie used the hair dryer and we saw how quickly the straw house blew off the table.

Oarryn tested how strong the stick house was.  It also fell down but not as easily as the straw house.

Corren tried to blow the Lego house down using the hair dryer but it did not move at all.

Author Visit

Both Primary 2 classes enjoyed listening to Lynne Rickards reading her children’s book, ‘Rowan the Red Squirrel.’  She also showed the children toy animals matching the characters in her stories.  Lynne was born in Canada but now lives in Scotland.

We enjoyed her visit and are keen to read more of her children’s books.

Gritter Visit

One of the new SIC gritters visited our school recently.

Each class had the opportunity to see the gritter up close and found out what the grit is made up of and how it is spread onto the roads.

All the pupils in the class have entered the competition to name one of the new gritters.

A big thank you to Elaine Skinley and one of the gritter drivers who gave up their time to visit the school.

The gritters perform a very important job during the winter months to help keep us safe on the roads.

Up Helly Aa 2018

What a fantastic day we had on Tuesday celebrating the Lerwick Up Helly Aa.

First we had a trip to the street to see both the Junior and Senior Squads on their morning parade.

Thankfully after a wet and windy start to the day it dried up nicely and we got to enjoy a front row view of the Squads.

Then it was back to school to welcome both squads and their musicians to the school and we were in good voice when we joined in with The Up Helly Aa song!

What a fantastic day to share with the Junior and Senior Jarls!
