Rock Pool Creatures!

We have been learning about Shetland’s wildlife. We have been thinking about animals that live on Shetland’s coastline. Miss Ross brought in a selection of sea creatures for us to look at. It was like having our very own indoor rock pool!

“We loved hearing about all the animals when Miss Ross told us about them. They are all really cool. Some of them are spiky and different. They are amazing with how cool they are!”

“It was wonderful to see new creatures and to find out what they are about.”

“It was really fun and we got to touch them!”

“When we were there we got to see lots of animals move. Everybody thought it was really fun and we all had a great time.”

“It was good to see the rock pool creatures because I’ve never seen such a big starfish. I didn’t know that some starfish have spiky bits on their legs!”

Shetland Dancing

We have started learning Shetland Dancing with Miss Simpson as part of our Shetland topic. The first dance on our list has been the Canadian Barn Dance.

“We really enjoyed dancing with our partners. It was fun when we were spinning around.”

“We were spinning around and it was really dizzy. We swapped partners after a while.”

“It was fun and we had time to do some extra dancing. Miss Towers came in to watch us. We had Shetland music.”

“It was funny. We counted when we danced.”

“The music went on for a long time.” “We were tired after!”

Library Trip

On Friday we visited the Shetland Library. We took part in a scavenger hunt around the library and met the librarians. After this we were given the chance to borrow books. We had so much fun that Miss Simpson forgot to take photos while we were there! Here we are back at school with our books.

Outdoor Multiplication

Today we were learning about multiplication. We made arrays using grids and stones outside to help us solve multiplication problems.

“We did stone arrays outside in the playground and we had partners to work with.”

“We asked our partner to do a times table question and they had to work out the sum with the stone and they told us the answer and we counted to check the answer.”

“It was fun and exciting. We got to collect stones and I really enjoyed doing our maths with stones outside.”

“It was pretty hard with some of the maths because our partners might have told us some hard ones like 9 X 9! It was fun because we got to search around like detectives looking for stones.”

“We got to learn something new.”

“We got to do some new sums and some outdoor maths.”
