Pupil Council visit to Council Chambers at St Rigan’s

On Tuesday 11th June, Mrs Angus and Mrs Williamson accompanied the Pupil Council, P2 – P7, to visit the council chambers. Councilors Neil Pearson, Catherine Hughson and Davie Sandison met us there and showed everyone how to officially conduct a meeting in the chambers. The pupil council members were excellent at remembering to switch on their mics and enjoyed seeing themselves in the big screens around the room.

The Pupil Council took this opportunity to speak about Health and Wellbeing week – what were highlights and what would be change for next session. Lots of rich discussion was had and the Councilors were all very impressed at how well the pupils conducted themselves and were excellent representatives of Sound School.

Health and Wellbeing Week – 3rd June  – 7th June 2024

The Pupil Council organised and prepared donations of fruit from Grays and Tesco to be shared with all classes for a Fruit Tasting session. All classes thoroughly enjoyed this.

Mrs Ritchie organised 3 different Orienteering courses for classes to enjoy throughout the week.

Cheryl and Naomi from Morgan Sindall visited P2, P4 and P5 to share their knowledge of planting seeds and growing native species. The classes will be using this knowledge to plat their own seeds and taking these home at the end of term.

Lots of fun activities happened throughout the week and the pictures above show just a few. The Pupil Council will now gather feedback from their classmates and use this to help plan Health and Wellbeing week for next session.

P1-P7 Assembly – Friday 12th January

Last Friday, the school fiddle group, Fiddlesticks, played for us at assembly. They were unable to play at the church at the end of Term 2 so we took the opportunity to share their talent at assembly.

We also has the Junior Road Safety Officers (JRSO) from P6 and Mrs Nicholson talking to everyone about bus safety.

What a treat for a Friday morning.

Inter-generational Activities

We have been working with the residents at Taing House this term. Primary 7 have been planting bulbs and Primary 5 have been making Christmas Crafts. Our pupils and the residents have thoroughly enjoyed these experiences and we look forward to more of these opportunities in the New Year.

Primary 4 pupils attended the Sound Senior Citizens’ Christmas party earlier this week. They performed some carols and danced with the party goers.

Islesburgh Drama Group Pantomime

This year you may have seen some of our Primary 7 pupils helping at the pantomime. They have been selling programmes in the theatre and on the door.
One of our Primary 6 pupils, Raya also won the competition to design a poster and programme cover.

Children in Need

Thanks to Primary 7 who planned an excellent Children in Need event this year. Each class organised a 20p fair. Activities included table tennis, hair spraying, beat the goalie, guess the sweets in a jar and the teddies names. They also arranged a Burpee Challenge across the school. Pudsey was invited and caused great excitement among our younger pupils. A grand total of £518 was raised!! Well done to p7 and their teachers.

The canteen ladies had lots of fun on the Bouncy Hopper race course.
