Respecting Rights

Beatrice Wishart MSP came for a visit. Our Outright Day representatives spoke to her about Children’s Rights. They told her about some of the issues that are important to our pupils here at Sound such as:
Climate Change, Pollution, Conflict, Vaccination against preventable diseases, Global Hunger and Poverty, children not being able to go to school in some parts of the world, children not having clean water and good sanitation and hygiene.

UNICEF Outright Day class representatives with Beatrice Wishart MSP.

This year sees the 30th anniversary of the Convention for the rights of a child.

UNICEF have asked that we celebrate by encouraging our pupils to speak out about Children’s rights because although things are better there are still some children whose rights are not being respected.

We are preparing for Outright Day 2019 at the moment. We have interviewed people who were children before the convention was introduced and found out how their lives were different to ours. We have also learned about young activists,  like Greta Thunberg who are speaking out about important issues which affect children.

Working together to improve outcomes for learners to be the best that they can be.
