Baby animals

We have been finding out the names we use for baby animals.

image

We each had a card with a baby or mummy animal name. We had to find our baby or our mummy.

image

Then we worked in pairs to find out the names of the other baby and mummy animals.

We learned about kids, calves, lambs, chicks, kittens, piglets, foals, puppies and ducklings.

When we found out an answers we recorded it on our clipboards.

We loved using clipboards and finding out about baby farm animals!

Planting fun!

imageimageimageimageimageWe have been having fun playing some vegetables with our buddies.

We had to dig up the soil and put in the seeds.

Mrs Regan from the Anderson High School came to help us. It was lots of fun.

We planted basil in pots.

We did a hunt in the garden for different materials.

We can’t wait to see how our vegetables grow!

Daily Mile

We have been trying to walk 1 mile every day at school.

image

We went for a walk with our buddies.

We met some other classes out for their daily mile too!

We are trying to walk all the way to Rio!

So far 1b has walked 193.61km. It’s 9300km to Rio!image

It was fun walking around the school with 2b, 6b and 7b!

We have to walk around the school 6 times to walk a mile.

Sounding out games

We have been playing a game about sounding out.

image

We had to throw the beanbag as we sounded out the words.

image

After we threw the beanbag and sounded out the words we wrote the words on the whiteboards.

image

We have enjoyed sounding out words and writing our letters carefully.

News jotter writing

Every week we write in our news jotters. We write about what we have been doing at the weekend or in the last week.

We like sharing our news with our talking partners.

image

We talk to our partners about what we are going to write.

image

This makes it easier for us to do our writing as we have had a chance to think about it and talk about it.

image

If we tell our partners something that doesn’t make sense, our partners will ask us to explain it better. This helps us to do news writing that makes sense to other people.

Advent calendar

We have had a lovely afternoon making our class advent calendar. We each painted our hands green and then made two handprints.image

image

We each decorated a little box with Christmas and winter pictures.

image

We will put our Christmas boxes underneath our advent calendar tree.

Fruit cutting and painting

We have been learning about healthy eating through our project about the Very Hungry Caterpillar.

This week we have looked at different kinds of fruit. Mrs Grant cut open the fruit in the middle so that we could look inside.

Then we painted a paper plate the same colour as the fruit.

image

We are going to make pears!

image

We are painting paper plates to make bananas!

image

We are making oranges.

image

We are making apples. We found some seeds inside.

We painted paper plates. Next we will use paper to add some details onto our plates, like the skin, pips and seeds of the fruit we cut up.

Scottish Children’s Book Award – Wanted! Ralfy Rabbit, Book Burglar

We met with our buddies on Wednesday afternoon to read the book Wanted! Ralphy Rabbit, Book Burglar.

Our buddies had read it in class in their reading groups and had prepared a follow-up activity to do with us.

We really enjoyed listening to our buddies reading the book. It was very funny!

image image

We went into the ICT suite to read the story with our buddies. It was much quieter there than in the classroom!

The classroom was very busy. That’s where we made our Ralfy Rabbit bookmarks. We cut out two Ralfy Rabbits and then glued them onto a lollipop stick.

image

Next week we will be reading another one of the books which are nominated for the Scottish Children’s Book award and we will do another activity with our buddies – we can’t wait!

Learning about the Food Bank

We had a special visitor in Primary 1 on Monday afternoon. Mr Grieve from the food bank came to speak to both primary 1 classes. He explained to us what the food bank is. When someone doesn’t have enough food to eat or money to buy enough then they can get some from the food bank.
Mr Grieve took in a big box of food to show us the kinds of things that they collect.imageimage

We heard that people can donate food to the food bank. We decided that it would be a good idea to arrange a collection of food in the school.
They particularly need boxes of cereal, tins of carrots, tins of peas and tins of potatoes.
We decided that we will speak to our buddies in P6 and that they could help us to collect in the food.
