Athletics

P2 have started the term in PE doing athletics.  On Wednesday we remembered that athletics is split into three areas, running, jumping and throwing.  We focused on jumping, performing in 7 different jumping activities.

  • standing vertical jump
  • 2 footed jumps following a directional pattern
  • low hurdles
  • standing long jump
  • rebound jumps
  • higher hurdles
  • boxes of differing height to jump onto.

We were reminded that the standing long jump and rebound jumps are 2 of the 6 events we take part in at sports day.

Racket Activities

In PE, we have finished the term doing racket activities.  We have used short tennis and badminton equipment so far and will finished tomorrow with table tennis bats and balls.  We started off by developing our hand eye coordination through using beach balls and catching balls in hoops.  We have then spent a week each on the 3 different sports.

Our main focus has been on speed.  In racket sports you have to move quickly for a short distances and be able to stop in control and balance.  We spent a lot of time working on using different foot patterns which will help us coordinate our way quickly around a court.

Dance

We started the year in PE doing a dance block.  We did lots of different little tasks using different themes.  We had to

  • travel in different ways – fast, slow, creep, etc
  • hold still shapes
  • follow a partner
  • move between 2 different actions
  • move like a stream of water, flowing and turning, then freeze, hold and melt
  • be the drip of water off a roof, freeze into an icicle and melt again
  • follow a folk dance
  • move like toys – a clown, dancer, robot and penguin
  • to move with heavy and light movements.

PE – Movement Skills

In PE we have been revising and developing our movement skills, performing with greater precision, control and fluency.   Some of our activities have included

-using our bodies, on our own and in groups, to create letters,

-navigate around a circuit of different obstacles involving changes of height and direction, coordination and balance,

-coordinating our feet to perform different patterns of movement using dots and ladders.

Here we are in action.
