Johnnie Notions<\/strong><\/p>\n

Mari from the museum visited our class to tell us a little about Johnnie Notions.\u00a0 He was a self taught physician from Shetland.\u00a0 He independently developed and administered an inoculation for smallpox to thousands of patients in Shetland during the late 18th century.\u00a0 Despite having only an elementary education and no formal medical background, the treatment he devised had a high success rate.<\/p>\n

Smallpox and other Viruses<\/strong><\/p>\n

Mari showed us a short video and explained how a virus can spread.\u00a0 We thought about Covid and how we took precautions to keep safe then.<\/p>\n

The Spreading of Germs<\/strong><\/p>\n

Using special UV handcream pupils discovered how quickly and easily germs can be spread from one person to another.<\/p>\n

The class really enjoyed finding out about this very important person in Shetland’s history.<\/p>\n
