My World of Work Visitors

Over our topic on My World of work we had a number of people to come in and talk about their jobs.

Anita came in to tell us all about the skills needed to work in Admin.

Brian told us all about the skills needed to be a builder. He brought in some blocks and a laser level to give us an idea of some of the things a builder had to work out.

Mr. Travins was able to tell us about what it was like being self employed as a musician. If you are ill when you are self employed you don’t get paid unless you have insurance.

We were lucky that PC Anderson came in to tell us all about the skills required to be a police officer.

Jack visited us to tell us all about being an Openreach Engineer. We got to have a go at doing some wiring.

Ralf came in to tell us all about being a marine engineer and how he used his transferable skills to move from Marine Engineering to working at the Power station. He brought in some massive spanners.

We are really looking forward to going for a visit to the power station on the 28th June.

We talked lots about transferable skills and how the same skills could be used in lots of jobs. We quickly realised that literacy and numeracy were needed in all of the jobs we looked at.

We also looked at loads of jobs on ‘My World of Work’ and chose some to write about. It was interesting to see what salary ranges there were in certain jobs and also what the hours per week were.

P6/7 Sports

We got the chance to compete in a Primary 6/7 Sports day in Aith.

There were lots of running races as well as things like the long jump and high Jump.

We have some speedy pupils in Skeld. One ran so fast I missed her as she hurtled past…

Here are some of our other runners…

Sadly not everyone could attend because of Covid.

L.S.Lowry

Primary six and seven had a great time exploring the art work of Mr Renwick’s favourite artist.  We used Oil pastels instead of oil paints but ended up with some excellent work inspired by Lowry.

Bikeability

Today we got our first Bikeability session. We are very Grateful to Jacqui  and Steve for coming over and working with us. We started off in the playground and then will move onto the road. We had great fun even if it was really cold.

Shape

We have been looking at 2D and 3D shape this term. We used playdough to make some 2D shapes. When we did 3D shape we went for a hunt around school to find some and made some great models.
