Today we got to work with Xinyi to make some traditional Chinese dishes. We worked as a team to prepare everything.
We then all got to try it… it was delicious!
Thank you to Xinyi for showing us how to make some yummy food.

After all of the cold, wet weather it was really nice to get outside in the fresh air… especially when the sky looked as amazing as this.
Here are a few pictures of some of our amazing raffle prizes that a lot of people have kindly donated.
As well as the parents, friends and families of the school we were also grateful to receive donations from:
AA Fired up
Bixter Shop
Fjara
Scalloway Weight Training Club Gym
Shetland Arts
SSE
A closer look:
We will be sorting out the raffle in the new year.
Well when we were doing our final preparations for our concert we didn’t think the snow would cause us to be off school for a week due to power cuts.
We had organised a raffle, practiced songs and carols as well as worked really hard with Dr. Justice on instrumental pieces too.
We had made a lot of things to sell as well as made some amazing sweets to add to our stalls too.
We had formed ourselves into three teams/companies and were trying to see who would make the most money on our initial budget.
We want to say a huge thank you to everyone who helped us in both the school and community. Our amazing sale items have been boxed up and will be sold next year, our sweeties were shared out between us all to take home – Yum!
We will do the raffle after Christmas as we had loads of amazing donations – look out for information in the new year.
This might be the last post for 2022 so everyone in Skeld Primary school and Nursery wants to wish you all a Merry Christmas and an Awesome New Year
We love art and do some amazing work. We were really pleased to hear that some of our work was being shown in the museum. We were even happier to hear that we were able to go and see it.
We want to say a big thank you to our Art Teacher as well as all the other art teachers who put so much work into showing off our art for everyone to see.
We got to use some more great ideas from a SSERC Meet that Mr Renwick attended.
We made Christmas decorations using Chromatography.
Chromatography is a scientific method
We used filter papers, but you could use a circle made from a coffee filter or even a paper towel. Use a felt tipped pen to make either a pattern or a dot in the middle of the circle. Keep going over this, the more times the better – we went for twenty. Drop water onto the ink. As it spreads out it will take the ink with it. The different colours in the ink will separate out
Geek Club were very proud of their achievements in turning the blue foam into something a little more realistic.
We still have work to do, adding colours to the different stones as well as adding moss and more variation to the ground. We may even add fungi to the base of the wall or a raven sitting on top.
Well, that was a noisy week. We were looking at our senses and did a lot of science experiments to help us understand sound.
We discussed how sound waves travel best through a solid and worst through the air. We tested this out using tuning forks.
We were really surprised by the difference; you can hear it Here.
We then got to make our own sound making devices, this was a lot of fun and rather loud.
You can see and hear some of them Here, Here, and Here.
Once again SSERC came to the rescue with some great resources and ideas from one of the SSERC Meets.
Geek club was busy on Friday after school making small scale walls out of 10mm blue extruded polystyrene.
They worked really hard to make sure their walls looked as realistic as they could be. They are still blue, but over time they will become small scale masterpieces.
We have formed three ‘rival’ companies to sell items at our Christmas Concert and sale on December 12th.
We had a budget of £20 each but Mr Renwick was given a voucher for 15% off. This meant that we could increase our funds by another £3. We even got free postage!
We worked hard to make sure that our ideas were within the budget.
We then worked out the cost per item to help us decide what price to sell them at.
All in all a very busy morning.
