Genetics

A part of our topic on Ancient beasts we have learned about genetics.

We used pairs of chromosomes from a male and female to produce our own babies. Sadly Mr. Renwick wouldn’t let us breed real animals so we had to make do with Reebops.

We were convinced that the babies would look like Mum and Dad Reebop, Mr. Renwick was so convinced that they wouldn’t that he said if we managed to produce an identical baby to the parents then he would give us two hours extra of Fun31.

Challenge Accepted!

We worked carefully on the task to produce our babies… sadly, although we came really close, not a single baby looked identical to Mum and Dad Reebop.

Here are a couple of the offspring…

They did look cool though!

Getting Outside

While Mr. Renwick was sorting out upstairs he came across the original plans for the school upgrade in 1996. We got to check them out and then looked at the scale used. It was 1:100. So for every 1mm on the plan, it meant 100mm in real life.

We decided to see how accurate the plans were… we carefully measured the plan and then did the same for the actual building. The plan and building matched perfectly.

We also found out that the nursery has a floating concrete floor. Some of the plans showed us what materials had been used and also how the building was constructed. it was all very interesting.

Sports Day

Once again we were the hosts for the Westside Primary school Sports day. Happyhansel Nursery and Primary as well as Sandness Primary came over for the annual event. Once again the sun shone and we had so many visitors they had to park in a nearby field.

We had great fun and tried our best.

Mrs. Chapman had organised some great activities for us all to try.

Outdoor Activities

When P6/7 went for their Sports Day at Aith we got to spend some time outside. After a bit of a safety talk P5 got to use the knives.

We listened very carefully to the safety instructions and followed the rules.

Primary 2 and 3 made beads out of the butterfly bush branches. they used  a small saw to cut the wood into bead sized chunks and then used a skewer to remove the soft centres.

A Big Thank You

The Geek Club want to say a big thank you to Games Workshop for sending us a box of miniatures for us to have a go at painting. We were very excited to receive this email

Hi Stephen Renwick,

Thank you for providing all the details needed to register with the Warhammer Alliance. We are pleased to let you know you have now been fully registered and your resource set should be delivered by UPS within 2 weeks.
Kind regards

Jason & Jo
UK Warhammer Alliance

We have asked Mr. Renwick to see if anyone else would be willing to help us out too.

Geek Club

We haven’t posted anything about the Geek Club for a while, but we certainly have been busy.

The following is the tray of miniatures to be varnished (we already took a lot home).

we have worked hard on colour mixing, layering, wet blending and dry brushing to achieve the masterpieces above.

this is what they started out looking like…

I am sure you will agree that there is a big difference!

You probably noticed that a lot of these are anthropomorphic. we really like this style. Next up are some very cute Koala’s and some gruff goats or whatever else we can persuade Mr. Renwick to print!

We want to say a big thank you to the parent council for giving us money to buy more exciting things for the club.

We are really looking forward to using Mr. Renwick’s machine for making our own tufts again.
