We have a new Cook

Our new cook Stacey started this week. she will now be making our lunches in the school rather than having to send them over from Happyhansel. We want to say a big thank you to Dawna for helping out when we didn’t have a cook.

Christmas Performance

Monday 16th December was our Christmas performance all pupils from Nursery to P6 pulled out all the stops to give the audience two great shows.

Firstly Nursery gave everyone a tremendous rendition of The Wonky Donkey.

Primary 2 to 6 then gave us Little Red Riding hood.

Sumdog Success

We had another Sumdog competition, unfortunately we missed the start date on Thursday and didn’t get started until Monday so we missed three full days of the competition.

However even though we were so late in starting we still manage to come second in Shetland and fourteenth in Scotland so a big well done to everyone in P2-P6 for their sterling effort.

Sumdog’s The Wee Sleep Out Contest is now over!

In total, 16562 students answered 2238336 questions correctly. Well done to them.

These are the results for the classes in your school who entered:

Fundraising for Nursery

The whole school came together to help fundraise for the Nursery outdoor area.

We held  Sunday teas on 24th November.

The primary bairns made crafts to sell and donated some of their profits to support the nursery.

We were very pleased to find that we had made £120 profit.

We used the opportunity to work with real money. Everyone helped work out the total for our stall and for the nursery.

In total the teas made over £600

Crafts for Sale

We decided to help nursery by doing some crafts to support them get money for their outdoor area.

We produced lots of different things.

we all made beeswax candles, unique pieces of art, gift tags and Christmas decorations.

The hand-rolled candles were made from sheets of beeswax. We had to leave them in a warm place to help them roll without cracking. Our biggest problem was that we ran out of wick. it looked like the five metres that we ordered was only four metres. Luckily we were saved by someone else who makes candles.

Here are some examples of our work.

Bowls

We have been lucky to have some expert training in carpet bowls.

John and Jean Jarmson come in once a week to help us improve

We like trying out other sports in Skeld as each person might enjoy something different. Our school has two mats and two sets of bowls so we can always carry on when our sessions are over.

Remembrance

We have all been learning about what remembrance means. we listened to a rare sound recording of the time when the guns fell silent. We also wrote a class Acrostic poem on Poppies. as well as did some artwork around the thought of remembrance.

We then wrote our own poems using either an Acrostic or an idea of our own.
