SPACE!

We spent some time outside using chalk to create our solar system. We had to think about and remember learning we had done on the planets – their names and what they look like and the size of them!

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

In P3/4, we have been reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl. We have created a door display, imagined interviewing different characters and done some pieces of writing based on the book.

Now that we have finished reading the book, we became Chocolatiers ourselves and created our own chocolate bars! We came up with a recipe, made the chocolate by melting it down and adding different flavours, colours and sprinkles. We also made a brand name and created a package for our chocolates. Have a look at some photos of this!

Gymnastics in P.E

In P.E for the last few weeks, P3/4 have been learning some gymnastics skills. They have looked at different balances and we have had a lot of time learning how to do a forward roll. This week, the pupils put what they had learned into a short routine. They could add other elements to their routine if they felt confident. Next week, we will learn a few new skills and add these into the routines!

Makkin Tae

We loved being in the nurture room with Aimee this week because she brought in supplies for us to make a cup of tea. We got to do it ourselves and then sit and enjoy it together. There was different kinds of milk to choose from like oat, almond and cows milk, or we could choose to have it with no milk. There’s nothing better than a good cup o tae to git da day goin’! By P4

An Amazing Encounter!

This week we had an online encounter with a real life author. Her name is Liz Flanagan and we got to all ask her questions. She has written the ‘Wildsmith’ series. There are multiple books in the series and we have read them all.

We wrote lots of letters to her and had a great time! When we asked her questions she gave us good, detailed answers.

I think the class was very happy with the visit and I hope we get to see her again someday.

Christmas is Coming…

We have been SUPER busy getting things ready for Christmas time. We have been making things for the craft fair which we are excited to sell. We also have been learning the song ‘Rocking Around the Christmas Tree’ to preform at an assembly and the song ‘The Magical Garden’ for the school show which is called ‘The Snow Queen’. We are feeling ready for all the Christmas fun in the next few weeks!! By P3/4

Community Garden

We loved playing in the community garden this week. We liked climbing in the trees. We also loved running around playing tag. We also loved playing Manny and Maggy.  By Sinclair, Scott, Lyall and Theo in P3/4

Spectacular Snow

We have LOVED getting to play in and explore the snow. We wish it was deeper but we have enjoyed building things from the snow. Here are some photos of our snow creations.

In our writing we have been learning about using interesting vocabulary and similes. Here is some vocabulary we think would describe the snow…

  • freezing
  • as cold as the moon
  • as cold as a freezer
  • extraordinarily cold
  • as cold as a cold bath.

Scottish Book Week

In P3/4 we absolutely LOVE listening to, reading and writing stories. We have been reading the Wildsmith series by Liz Flanagan and are currently reading the 4th book in the series ‘ Wildsmith Magical Mountain Rescue’. We would highly recommend these books to children aged between 7 and 10.

Every day we have time to ‘read for enjoyment’. This is when we can choose what book we want to read!

One of our Book Week Scotland activities was listening to Nadia Shireen’s Authors Live video. She writes the ‘Grimwood’ books. We have some of these in our classroom so it was good to hear from the person who wrote AND illustrated them. She told us about why she became an author and her love for drawing. Lots of us think we would make good authors and illustrators.

On Friday afternoon, we had a BookBug and Book Gifting session. Some parents even came in to read with us. We liked seeing Book Bug and loved that everyone got a new book to read! THANK YOU CLAIRE FOR ORGANISING!!
