Homework

Make – do and mend- design and make a toy using only recycled materials.

Jolene made a toy snake using a balloon and a plastic band. It was really easy to make and took only 10 minutes.

First Jolene blew up the long green balloon. She realised it looked like a snake, she wasn’t going to make a snake in the first place but changed her mind. She then cut the red plastic band and stuck it on.She also drew on two black eyes with her sharpey pen. Jolene thought this toy would be good for younger children to play with, because it wouldn’t break anything if the child threw it about.

Jolene really liked this homework because it was fun and enjoyable. She wishes she could do this homework all over again. Jolene also made two other recycled toys but was most proud about her snake.

Make a model of an air – raid shelter (3D/minecraft etc).

Faye made an air – raid  shelter made in 3D. It wasn’t easy and took the whole week to make.

First Faye got a carboard box, to make her shelter out of. She then cut the cardboard and made the shelter itself, Faye had to cover it in tin foil to make it look like metal. She cut the box again and made the garden. For the grass she had to cut a sponge and painted it green, stuck it down. She then had to make the sandbags out of fimo, Faye also made flowers for a flower patch out of fimo and beads. Faye then made the inside of the air – raid shelter, so you could see what it looked like inside too.  Faye really enjoyed doing this homework and thought it was fun.

Guest speaker

On the 23rd of January 2018 Mr Neicho came into p7 to talk about the war as our topic is world war 2, he also brought in some of his families artefacts with him. He told us where all of these medals came from and what they were for.

The one on the left is called 39-49 star, the second from the left is called Burma star, the third one from the left is called Defence medal, the fourth one from the left is called War medal 1939-45, the second one to the right is called the Long service medal and the one on the right is called Meritorious medal.

He was also telling us a lot about the different battles that were fought. One of the battles he told us about was the Battle of the Bulge.

Some of the other things that he brought in included a persons ID card, a picture of one of his relations with other soldiers and some books.

In class we have been doing war timelines so Mr Neicho’s visit was very helpful as he was able to tell us lots of facts about what happened in the years we were writing about. It was also very interesting. We really enjoyed his talk and hope he will visit again during our topic.
