Activity Week

In May some of the P7’s were going on a trip to Stirling with the older classes for a week.  Some of our class and the Secondary’s stayed in Whalsay at the Secondary.

Before the trip we had planned out all the activities we would be doing that all of us would like and enjoy.

On the first day of our fun activity week, we did an activity game called the hunger games with, we thought it would be a game when they hide our food and we could only eat it if we found it, but it wasn’t!  It was a game when you were in pairs and we had compasses to show us the directions, we were down at the pitch and there were cones spread out everywhere and we had sheets of paper to see where we had to go.  Each bit of our food had a different number for a different clip for the next part of the hunger games and we had to follow directions and find the clip with numbers on them, if we read the directions wrong we didn’t get that bit of our packed lunch!  Thankfully I think we mostly got it all right and had all our lunch.

The second day of the activity week was a day out of the isle, we were going clay pigeon shooting!  We went out early in the morning in the minibus with Mr Spence and Mrs McGregor and Mrs Hull drove in her car, and we arrived there in time.  We all used the same gun, and a man who worked there helped us hold the gun and told us when to shoot.  It slightly hurt on your shoulder if you didn’t hold it tight enough, I didn’t – so it hurt a little!  We had another round and Faye won!  Now it was time to head to the Burra beach.  Once there in the minibus we just had to walk down a piece of road and there it was! Some of us were in our swimsuits it was such lovely weather, the water was cold but if you were in it long enough it warmed up and you could have a swim further out from the beach. Me and Emma found an old cat he was very friendly.

The third day of our fun week was a day at Skaw, to play golf.  Miss Irvine drove us there in the minibus.  We were put into pairs and went to different parts of the golf course than others.  We practised on the little course first while some of the older ones were on the other golf practice place. We had shots of both of the courses then we went with some of the different golf players in our pairs to play a proper game.  We played for the whole morning and then we went back to the school for dinner.  We had our dinner then we had a bake off! We picked our own pairs and then we had to bake out own cupcakes, the ingredients were on the board.  We were judged by the teachers to see whose were the best, everyone won!

Us when we all won!

The last day was a trip to Bressa for an art exhibition about Shetland. We went out early in the morning to meet Amy Gear at the Bressa ferry.  We went out and we met a woman who showed us her Shetland exhibition, it was a bit unusual, but impressive. We learnt about her work then drew some pictures of our surroundings outside, after that we ate our lunch and went back to Whalsay with the ferry for the end of the activity week.

Stirling Trip

On Monday the 28th of May p7 to s3 went on a trip to Stirling.  We went on the Northlink and then drove to Stirling the next morning. On route to Stirling we went to Blair Drummond Safari Park. In the safari park they had lots of  fun rides and they had dodgems. They also had a big playpark and sand pits. There was a zipline and pedal boats. Before we left the safari park we went on the ‘drive- through’ safari and that  was really  cool. Lots of people chose the Safari park as their favourite activity.

We then continued our drive to Stirling which took us a further 30 minutes. When we got to Stirling we went to Frankie and Bennys for our tea.

Our favourite parts on the trip were: the go karts, trampoline park and safari park because they were all really fun and enjoyable.

Our favourite restaurant was Jimmy Zhengs and Frankie and Bennys and our worst restaurant was the Filling Station.

Overall we really enjoyed the trip and we would love to go on another one!
