In term one we were very lucky to have a visit from Eleanor Hutcheon who came in to do a STEM workshop with us as part of our Climate Change topic.<\/p>\n

The morning was spent talking about the Braer disaster and how oil spills are cleaned up.\u00a0 Pupils were given a variety of materials to use to clean up an oil spill (oil and cocoa powder!).\u00a0 Some of the creations were more successful than others but all managed to clean up some of the oil.<\/p>\n

The afternoon was spent looking at renewable energy and in particular wind turbines.\u00a0 Pupils were given the challenge to build a wind turbine using Lego and a generator.\u00a0 There were a lot of testing their models and amending accordingly.\u00a0 In the end, nearly all of the turbine were able to produce electricity when put next to a fan.\u00a0 The highest reading reached was 6.2 volts!<\/p>\n
