Art & Music

This term we have been doing a lot of art and a lot of it is about Whalsay. Art is first thing on Friday it takes up 45 minutes. Last week we had a stack of shoes then we had to draw from the angle you were sitting at. Mr Stevenson is our teacher for art and in the secondary he teaches all classes.

We have been doing music as well as art and our teacher is Mrs Charles and we are learning ‘The Lion Sleeps Tonight’ and ‘Flower o Scotland’ this week we have been learning some Christmas carols to sing at Fernlea.

Concert Practise

This week we have been practicing our concert which is Jack and the beanstalk by Roald Dahl. Eleanor is Jack, Annie is mother, Ava and Jolene is the daisy the cow, Ian is the bean seller and Aaliyah is the giant. The first song is called ‘Let There be Music’, the hardest song is ‘CRUNCH’. The birds and a few animals get to sing Man in the moon in a choir.

This term we have ben doing a lot of different stuff during language time and library. We love library because we can relax while we read our books for our AR tests. In language we get out our jotters and we learn about things like; conjunctions, exclamations, story framing, news, syllables and spelling.

I really enjoy spelling and learning how to use punctuation!

Maths

This term we have have been learning all about Number, which includes hundred thousands, thousands, hundreds, tens and units. We do Maths nearly every day. We have been doing Sumdog which is a maths game that encourages us to get our work done. We came 3rd in the Shetland competition last week!Its fun because you can play with anyone but can’t talk to each other.

Maths is normally around an hour long. Now we are learning about rounding and addition and subtraction. Its not to easy but not too hard!
