Wir Peerie Procession!

On Thursday afternoon we invited family and friends to come along and enjoy our peerie P1 procession around the galley boat.

We were delighted to welcome some special guests (real Vikings!!) who showed us their fantastic suits and their shields and axes.

When we’d sung the ‘Up Helly Aa Song’ at full volume we invited our families in to help us make our own shields.  We could make any design we wanted using a variety of craft resources.

Here are some pictures from the afternoon.

We had live music from fiddles and an accordian.  The musicians showed us their instruments in the classroom and we really enjoyed singing along with them.

We all had an amazing afternoon and want to thank everyone who came along and shared it with us.  Thank You!

Welcome Back!

Here are a few pictures from our first morning back in school after the Christmas holidays.

We’ve had a great holiday and are ready to get busy again.

Our Bookbug Family Event

As part of The Scottish Book Trust’s Bookbug week we had our Bookbug Family event in P 1 today.

We listened to the story  ‘One Button Benny’ by Alan Windram  then we had a go at making our own robots.

Thank you to everyone who made our afternoon such fun and what brilliant robots we made.

Meeting the Author!

We were really lucky this week to get a special visit from the Author Lynne Rickards.  She brought two of the books she’s written ‘Skye the Puffling’ and ‘Rowan the Red Squirrel’.  The stories were brilliant and we loved her toy characters.

Sharing a story sack

In term 1 we’ve been listening to lots of stories and using our class library to choose books we would like to explore.

We have also been visiting the school library where we have selected story sacks with a partner and enjoyed sharing them in the classroom.

In term 2 we get to take a book home each week from the school library to share with our families.  We can’t wait.

Handwashing

We were delighted to welcome Dawn Manson into our classroom today to help us learn how important it is to keep our hands clean and how we can do this really well.

We got to use the ‘Magic Potion’ which represented germs and look at them under the ultraviolet light.  The invisible ‘Magic Potion’ glowed under the special light.  Then we washed our hands to see if we could was away all the germs.

This helped us see how tricky germs are when we can’t see them and how important it is to wash our hands really well with soap and water.

Dawn showing us the magic cream and talking about the ultraviolet light we were going to use to see the pretend germs.
Checking our hands for the first time after the cream was applied. Wow we look like skeletons!

Then after washing our hands we came back to double check if they were clean.

It was difficult to know if the hands were really clean by just looking at them.

We did a brilliant job and all had lovely clean hands.  We keep practising this every day when we wash our hands before snack and lunch.
