P2A have been exploring using wax crayons to make beautiful paths of colour. Here is a very good example by Abi.
Fairy Tales
Our topic this term is Fairy Tales. We have crammed a lot into our first 3 weeks! We have looked at Goldilocks, The Three Little Pigs and Jack and the Beanstalk. We have made very cute paper plate pigs to go on the wall and have designed our own castles to go on top of our beanstalks. One of our favourite activities included learning about housing types and going for a walk to explore the different kinds of housing – bungalows, semi-detached, detached and terraced. We have also collected sticks from the wildlife to try and build a house like the middle piggy. We have had lots of play opportunities in our class to tie in with our Fairy Tales such as oats and 3 bowls and 3 teddies for goldilocks and building opportunities involving a variety of bricks – lego and jenga blocks.
We had a surprise visit from Chilli the Dragon. We had to follow the trail of sequin stars to our library. He has asked us to help save Fairyland by building a Fairyland in the classroom and learning lots of Fairy Tales. The pupils are very excited about this and have all enjoyed cuddles with our lovely dragon friend.
Welcome to our P2a Blog!
We have been enjoying the lovely weather outside and have enjoyed time in the adventure playground, wildlife area and our P2 outside space. One of the most exciting events was having snack outside on a particularly sunny day. Let’s hope we get to do that again soon.
Curriculum Information P2a
Here is information on what we will be learning this term.
Our last Welly Wednesday ☀️
Primary 1 have gained so much this year from outdoor learning. From developing our fine and gross motor skills, our social and emotional regulation and our ability to enjoy the vast benefits of the outdoors. Thanks for all your support this year in getting your little learners outdoors.
Reading Buddies
We love our reading buddies. They’re so good to us, modelling a love of reading, sharing stories with us and listening to us while we read to them. Thank you P5.
Art Lesson
In art P1 have been printing using many different tools.
They have used paint lids, fingers and spreaders to layer up a lovely flower meadow.
Good job primary 1! 😁
Drawing Club
We are in our 4th term of drawing club, the benefits to listening and talking, reading, writing, story telling and wellbeing are fantastic. Most of all we love the fun, the enthusiasm children have for it and the endless possibilities. This week we are using the ‘Wacky races’ as our provocation and enjoyed drawing A2 size race tracks. Our imaginations ran wild and we loved it. 🚗

’we’re flying, look there are mermaids, help while I job over!’
‘I am a magician, I can make people disappear…’
‘it’s a race car, look I drew wheels on it’
‘I’ve written some words on the box, look at my letters!’
IDL – Growing and Reactions
Drawing Club
Primary 1 loved having their parents or buddies join them to do drawing club. We shared our phonics learning that occurs naturally through drawing club inputs and expanded our vocabulary of the story further through reciprocal drawing.
Music
We have been dancing, singing and playing along to this piece called ‘I am a robot’. It was a lot of fun!
For World Book Day we created sounds to bring ‘The Foggy Foggy Forest’ by Nick Sharath alive. We were creating music!
We are beginning to learn how to clap rhythms. We created our own rhythms and then performed them to the rest of the class. We also then worked on our performing and audience skills!
After we followed pictorial symbols to help us play our percussion instruments to Colonel Hathi’s March from the Jungle Book. We had great fun using the instruments and did well.
Up-Helly-Aa songs
The beginning of this term in music was spent learning the Up-Helly-Aa songs for our 2 visitation days! And our peerie procession. We worked really hard and sounded fantastic!
