Shetland/Scottish Dance

P3A recently finished a block of Shetland and Scottish Dance in PE.  We covered several dances, learning that dances are made up of small sections which are repeated.  We also discovered that once we have learnt an action, it can be done in a variety of different dances.  For example, we learnt to cast off in the Grand Old Duke of York and then repeated this part in 2 other dances.

The dances we learnt were

  • Circassian Circle
  • Norsk Polka
  • The Ferry Boat
  • Grand Old Duke of York
  • Witches Reel
  • Waves of Troy
  • Boston 2 step
  • Gay Gordons with a modified hold

We finished the block making up our own Shetland dances.  Here we are in action.

Senses

We have been learning about senses as part of our healthy bodies topic. We had fun finding out about noses and smell. We had 10 different pots to smell and try to guess what the smell was. We had cinnamon, orange, soy sauce, garlic, vinegar, vanilla, cheese, washing powder, hot chocolate powder and mint mouthwash. There was lots of funny faces pulled.

Up Helly Aa

We had a fun morning visiting the street to see the vikings. We also got to see them in school  and show them the shields that we had made. We both had Viking Runes on our shields.
