Learning Through Play

P1/2 have done a lot of learning through their own play this week. There are various stations in the classroom set up for play for the pupils to choose from. The pupils have all done a super job playing well together this week and sharing the resources.  They have also all taken responsibility for tidying up after their play each day. Here are some photos of their play this week.

Number Work

P1/2 have been very busy doing lots of number work in class this week. P1 have been focusing on numbers to 10, while P2 have been looking at numbers up to 20. This has been a great chance for the class to get back into numeracy after the holidays.

P1/2 have both been using the Numicon this week with their number work. This is a great practical resource that the pupils all get very engaged in.  P2 even made their own Numicon!

First Full Week Back – Literacy!

P1/2 have done very well this week as we got into our class routine. We did lots of literacy this week. P1 began their Jolly Phonics this week with the sounds ‘s’ and ‘a’. They practiced their formation of the letters using various stations, such as play dough, sand trays and loose parts!

P2 looked at the ‘sh’ sound for their spelling this week as well as looking at capital letter formations for their grammar work. They also used a variety of methods to practice!

These activities were done practically through play and the pupils were very engaged in their learning. Well done P1/2!

P2 Visit to Sandwick Beach

Last Thursday, Primary 2 had a lovely visit to the Sandwick beach to collect natural materials which will be used for a display in class this week.  The pupils all showed excellent stamina to walk to the beach and back thinking carefully about road safety as they made their way down and up.  Whilst at the beach, the pupils enjoyed exploring the surroundings and climbing over the rocks.  The tide was quite high so they had to be careful not to get wet feet as they collected a range of shells, stones, sticks and sea glass.

Welcome Back!

It was lovely to welcome the new Primary 1 pupils into school this morning and they soon settled into their new classroom alongside some pupils from Primary 2.  They all had a busy time playing at the new stations , enjoying catching up and getting to know each other and their new classroom.  The pupils confidently shared their holiday news and then drew pictures and wrote about their experiences which was lovely to hear.  Below are some photos from the first day back.
