School Trip

It was a super day out with a stop at the Crofthouse museum, then Jarlshof, the Bigton Hall for lunch and finally to the Bigton playpark. The kids were so well behaved and engaged it was a pleasure to be out with them.

Term 4 Week 9

Corpse Exquisite

This is a surrealist art game that your will probably have played at some point. You fold paper into 3 sections and one person draws the head. The pictures are then passed around and the next person draws a body. Finally the last person draws the ‘legs’. The idea is to make the section you are drawing as weird as possible and, of course, you don’t know what the finished creation will look like until the very end.

We practiced 4 art techniques, to add texture and shading,  while doing this; hatching, cross hatching, stippling and scumbling (isn’t that a great word).

I hope you enjoy having a look at the kids creations.

Term 4 Week 4

Music Instructors Tour

The kids all loved hearing some familiar tunes played using a variety of instruments available for tuition in Shetland. A letter will be sent out from the school when it is time to sign your child up to join the waiting list for music tuition.

Scratch

The kids have been loving getting together with the other P4s and having a go at their own computer programming using Scratch.

Japanese Jobs

The kids loved learning about Japanese jobs thanks to Mrs Leith on Wednesday.

Term 4 Week 3

Class Trip

On Wednesday we took a class trip to the Shetland Museum. The kids were able to have a guided tour of the museum focusing on crofting in Shetland, look at and touch some cool artefacts relating to life in Shetland in the past and were even able to have a go at carding. I hope they have come home with lots of new information about Shetland.

Term 4 Week 2

This term, on Monday afternoons, P4 from Miss Mann’s class come through to join us. We break off into groups with one group working with Mrs J, one group having 31 for 31 and one group going outside with Carrie-Ann.

Outdoor Learning with Carrie-Ann

This week we planted some herbs for the kitchen and even had a taste at some of the herbs that were already growing. There was definately a mixed response, some of us really liked them and others definately did not!

Scratch with Mrs J

We had a great time learning how to use Scratch with Mrs J. We learned how to add backgrounds and programmed our sprites (characters) to move using the arrow keys on the keyboard. We are going to add to this by programming our srites to jump and then adding in obstacles for them to avoid. This will mean that we have been able to create our very own game!

Bikeability for P5

Primary 5 have started their block of bikeability. This takes place mostly in the multi-court. We are learing how to cycle safely so we can look after ourselves and other road users.
