On Thursday we had a visit from Dennis and Andrew from The Rotary club. They were telling us all about Shelter Boxes. These boxes get sent to countries that are less fortunate than us. Quite often these countries have had natural disasters or man made disasters such as civil wars. Families can lose their homes for lots of reasons, sometimes they have to leave their homes and other times their homes might be destroyed.
The shelter boxes have everything they need to survive. Some of the items in the box are: A tent that sleeps 12, tools, pots and pans, a stove, scarf and gloves if it’s a cold country, rope, sleeping bags, water bottles, tablets to decontaminate the water and colouring pencils and paper.
It was very interesting to find out all about the boxes and what the are for.
This was a timely visit in view of the disaster that has happened in Nepal; this is just the sort of help that the people there need at the moment. I’m glad you found it so interesting. The schools on Yell managed to raise enough to buy a box this year and also enjoyed a visit and a close look at a Shelter Box.
