Coronation Lunch

P234 had an amazing time at the whole school lunch to celebrate the coronation.  The children were invited to come to school wearing Best of British costumes or something red, white or blue. We made crowns to wear and were able to enjoy a delicious lunch prepared by the canteen. The children each received a commemorative pin badge to celebrate the coronation of King Charles III.

Here are some photos from the event…

Science Fair

On Friday 28th April we were visited by the Glasgow Science Festival. It was great fun. We learned all about how food travels through  the body. First we had to decide which foods were healthy and which should be used as a treat. Then we watched how the food traveled through the body by watching the footage from a special internal camera. We watched a demonstration of what happens to food when it is in the stomach. It was both disgusting and hilarious!

There were lots of exhibits to try out – a strength test, a balancing board and a thermal imaging camera. We could also look at x-rays, put muscles in an arm and leg, look at our skin up close and listen to breathing. It was great fun!

Times Tables

P 2/3/4 have been working very hard to learn their multiplication tables this term. We know that it is important to be able to say our tables forwards, backwards and from the inside out!

As part of our numeracy work this week we made games to help us revise and practice our times tables.

Each co-operative group was given a table (or two!) and asked to make a fun game for the class to use. We could make a board game, a bingo game, dominoes, or a fairground type game. We only had 45 minutes to decide, plan, design and make our games. We had a lot of fun and enjoyed sharing these games with the class.

Snow Closure Tuesday 14th March

Good morning P2/3/4 if you are looking for some activities to do while you are at home on this snowy day you could try some of the following:

Literacy:

  • Invent your own character to star in a future story. Think about all the information we put into a character profile. You can draw your character and write down everything you can about them (what type of person/animal they are, where they live, what they do etc) just as we have been doing in class.
  • You could also make up a story board to show what will happen to them in your future story.
  • Revise your spelling words.
  • Read your library book or accelerated reading book.

Numeracy:

  • Telling the time : play some of the games on Topmarks (search Topmarks telling the time games)
  • Time how long it takes you to do some tasks – eg building a snowman, clearing a path etc.
  • Log into Sumdog and practice your times tables.
  • Make up a ‘telling the time’ game to play.

Snow Closure Day 10th March

Hello Everyone,

We hope you are having lots of fun in the snow. It is an amazing chance to play in snow this deep as it is a long time since we have seen this kind of weather. It ties in very well with our topic!

If you are looking for extra activities Miss Irvine posted an activities grid on the school blog on Wednesday.

If you can, try using Sumdog to practise your times tables. You can access this through clicking on ‘Tasks’ and then ‘Multiplication Practice’.

If you have made an igloo, can you take a picture of it and bring it into school? It would be great to see them after us making our milk bottle igloo.

Enjoy your day in the snow.

World Book Day

It has been a busy day in P234. There were a lot of lovely costumes on show and the children were delighted to share their favourite books with each other.

P234 were really lucky to have Mrs Ann Marie Anderson in class today to talk about her Peerie Oorick books. The class got to hear Mrs Anderson’s story and everyone made their own ooricks using card an oo. Everyone was so inspired by listening to Mrs Anderson, they wrote their own stories about their own oorick’s adventures!

After lunch S2 came in and shared some activities on Pippi Longstocking they had planned during their English lessons. S2 did really well and the children were all engaged in the activities. S2 had a colouring competition for the P234 class to complete. Well done Leah for winning the competition!

Finally, P3 and 4 joined in with P5 and 6 to complete world book day activities, while P2 from both classes came together with P7 to do some shared reading. P7 were very responsible and P2 fairly enjoyed their time with them.

Animal Adoption

As part of our Hot and Cold Climates topic we have been investigating animals that live in these climates.

We discovered that some animals are endangered and we wanted to do something to help protect them.

In our co-operative groups we looked at some endangered animals and had to make a presentation to try to persuade the class to vote for the animals we wanted to help protect.

We voted to adopt an Amur Leopard and a Penguin.

We were delighted when our adoption packs arrived today with cuddly toys of our animals!
