Spring Festival

We really enjoyed the Spring Festival in the Pink Hall at the end of Term 3.  P1/2 sang an Easter song, P3 read spring poems, P4/5 made a fantastic animated video to re-tell the Easter story and P6/7 did a sketch about taking the blame.  After the service, we went back to school for snack and a look around the stalls which P6/7 had been busy creating.  P6/7 raised money for Sports Relief.

Rolling Easter Eggs

We loved rolling Easter Eggs at the end of Term 3!  It’s an annual tradition at Hamnavoe Primary and the whole school takes part.  Well done to Abigail, Alfit, Lois and Connor who won a prize for the best designed Easter egg!a

Sports Relief!

Hamnavoe supported Sports Relief with an afternoon of activities. There was a HIIT exercise class, basketball, skipping, hoola hooping and dancing. Everyone enjoyed themselves and there were lots of red faces at the end of it. Lots of family members turned out to join in too. We clocked up lots of miles and have almost made it to Nairobi, Kenya which was our Daily Mile, New Year Challenge. We are now within 700 miles and with a bit of effort in the next week we should make it!

Da Fisherman’s Wife

Today the author of ‘Da Fisherman’s Wife’ and ‘Da Ooricks’ books came to visit Primary 1/2.  She read the stories to us and we spoke lots about Shetland dialect.  Everyone in the class made a peerie wife and a ram.  We used lots of oo (wool) to make the rams body and the wife’s hair.  We felt peats, tried on the kishie and looked at fair isle patterns.

BBC Radio Shetland also joined us.  They interviewed some children about their favourite Shetland dialect words and why they like learning Shetland dialect.

Primary 1/2 would like to say a huge Thank-You to Ann-Maire for spending time in our class today.  We really enjoyed your visit 🙂
