Pencil Control Skills

Here are some photos of how we develop and strengthen fine motor skills in Primary 1 and 2.  This is an important skill which help with pencil control and handwriting.  Everyone was really focussed and concentrated for a long time on the fine motor and pencil control tasks.

Leaf Rubbings

In class we are learning about Autumn and Harvest.  We collected leaves which had fallen from the trees in the school tree garden.  We took them into class and had a look at the colours, patterns and sizes of the leaves we had collected.  Next, we used Autumn leaf colours to take rubbings of our leaves.

Fresh 15

On Wednesday we went outside for the ‘Fresh 15’.  We went into the multi court for 15 minutes of fresh air and exercise before topic work in the afternoon.  We walked and ran around for a few minutes then played some catchie games and races.  At the end, everyone found their friends and went for a walk and chat with them around the multi.  It was lovely to see everyone being such great friends and encouraging their friends to keep going.  Some children were very caring by  checking on others if they were upset or hurt.

3D Shape

Primary 2 are learning about 3D shapes.  It’s very tricky!  They have been learning about the properties of 3D shapes.  Today we played a game on the whiteboard where we had to find 3D shapes.  We build sandcastles in the sand tray using different 3D shapes and we tried making 3D shapes with playdoh – it was very hard!

Kandinsky Art

This term we have been learning about shapes.  We learned about the abstract artist Wassily Kandinsky.  We made a tree of his concentric circles by cutting and gluing different sized circles.  We are developing our scissor skills in Primary 1/2.  Some of the class were inspired by his work and decided to draw around shapes to add to our wall.  Daisy decided to try some abstract colouring and created her own designs.

Numbers within 100

Primary 2 have had great fun today learning about numbers within 100.  They are learning to recognise and identify numbers within 100 now.  They got off to a great start today but still have lots of learning to do!
