We’ve been talking a lot about pants! As part of ‘Wir Ain Peerie Bodies’ topic, we have been learning about our private parts and how to keep them private. We have read a lot of funny pants books and even designed our own pants! We particularly enjoyed the story ‘Mrs Vicker’s Knickers’!

Primary 1 and 2 have really enjoyed having the dolls out to play with. They have been looking after the babies and making sure they have a bath, get dried well, have a nappy on and clothes on. The babies have helped us with ‘Wir Ain Peerie Bodies’ topic and learning about the correct names for our private parts.

Primary 1/2 have enjoyed playing Vikings with the galley today. They used the mechano to make weapons and used the tools to pretend to build the galley. There was some excellent sorting and counting going on in the maths area.

Primary 1/2 loved spending time in the multi this afternoon. They tried to make snow angels and write names in the snow. The snow was very frozen and solid so it was a bit tricky!

What a busy week preparing for the Fire Festival!
Primary 1/2 spent time looking at old Up Helly Aa and Fire Festival programmes, we designed and made squad torches, helmets and shields and we even made a galley! Everyone has been busy making swords and other weapons and armour during free choose time.
On Friday afternoon Jarl Jamieson and his squad of Vikings were welcomed to Hamnavoe Primary School. Everyone in Hamnavoe had prepared a special Viking song written especially for this year’s Jarl. You can watch and listen to the school singing the song on the school website.
Everyone enjoyed spending time having a good look at the Viking outfits and trying on some of their armour and weapons.
Well done to Sonny in P2 who won the class star badge this week. Well done to Samuel in P1 who received a silver award from the Jarl for designing and creating his very own Viking axe. Ella Mae in P1 won the competition for designing a Viking shield. Her shield was printed and displayed on this year’s galley.

Welcome to 2019!
We hope you’ve had a peaceful festive. We’ve had a busy first week back in P1/2. The class have enjoyed playing with aqua beads and the Viking castle. Sonny in P2 managed to make a floating galley out of tin foil! We had a very relaxing library session – everyone must have been very tired!
