Harvest Festival

Today everyone from Hamnavoe Primary School went to the Pink Hall (the church next to the school) to celebrate Harvest with families and members of the community.  The hall was decorated beautifully with lots of produce which has been donated by members of the community and also Autumn pictures the pupils have created in Art.

P1/2 sang a harvest song and some pupils chose to read out their harvest and Autumn acrostic poems.

P3/4/5 gave us a quiz on how long it takes different types of litter to biodegrade.

P6/7 told us lots of facts about the country of Brazil and some of it’s nature.

The service ended with the whole school singing a Harvest song.

Some members of the community were nominated to receive a Harvest package full of goodies to enjoy.  These packages have been put together with donated produce and will be delivered this afternoon.

Finger Gym

Our finger gym activity has been picking up small beads and putting them into containers which we got from the local pharmacy.  The pharmacy use them to put tablets in.  The children have been using their fingers or small tweezers to complete the task.  One of the girls was very proud of her skills when she decided to sort the beads into colours.

Free Choose – Writing

These boys were very proud of the writing they did during ‘Free Choose’.  Johnnie was very proud of his rhyming words and asked for a photo to go on the blog.  Tiylor was very proud that he managed to spell ‘school’ correctly.  Well done boys!

P1 Make Life Size Bodies

Primary 1 have had a busy afternoon with Mrs Couper.

As part of our topic about our bodies, they have made life size cut outs for our display.

They have learned lots whilst doing this activity.  They have learned to take responsibility for keeping their clothes clean by putting on their art aprons.  They have had to practise taking turns when painting.  They have had to think about how to draw around a real person and think about what colours they need to paint the person.  At the end of the session, Primary 1 took responsibility for the art materials by washing the paint pots and brushes.

Toothbrushing

On Monday afternoon Clare came to check on our toothbrushing skills.  She gave us some advice about how to look after our teeth.  She asked us to:

  • get mam or dad to help us brush our teeth every morning and night
  • eat sugary treats after tea
  • try to eat fruit for snack
  • eat less sugary snacks
