P3 writing buddies

P3 spent an afternoon with p1/2.  We brainstormed ideas for a Christmas senses poem and wrote ideas on large sheets of paper.  We discussed the ideas and then got writing!  Thanks to everyone in P3 who came to help P1 write their senses poems.  You did a great job of helping P1 with their spelling and punctuation!

Family Fun

Thanks to all parents of Primary 1/2 who have been involved during Scottish Book Trust Week 2016.  The children have loved all of the experiences throughout the week.  Thanks for all the photos you emailed in of your child reading in their favourite spot at home.

Special thanks to all families who came to our open afternoon on Friday to enjoy books with us.  We hope you had fun!  Enjoy your Bookbug and Read, Write Count packs!

Show and Tell

For Scottish Book Trust Week everyone brought in a favourite book from home to share with the class.

Beth who is only in P1 read the whole story of ‘Chicken Licken’ to the class.

Alfie read lots of Oxford Reading Tree books at home and decided to make a Lego Kipper and Chip which he brought into the class to show everyone.

There’s A Bear On My Chair

Another one of the Bookbug books was ‘There’s A Bear On My Chair’ by Ross Collins.  The class really enjoyed all of the rhyming words in this book.  After reading it, we thought about all of the words which rhyme with ‘bear’ and we wrote our own poem.  We also wrote a poem about a snake and a cat and rat.  We had a lot of fun writing these!

Shark in the Park on a Windy Day!

We are doing lots of activities this week to celebrate Scottish Book Trust Week.

We have been reading the books from the Bookbug P1 Family Pack.

Today we read ‘Shark in the Park on a Windy Day’ by Nick Sharratt.  We designed our own kites and took them outside in the wind.  They didn’t fly though but they look good in the photo!  We then made shark pictures and gave them lots of teeth!   Thanks to Hilton Primary in Inverness for the craft inspiration.

We are looking forward to families coming into our class on Friday to look at all of the book work and display’s we have been making.

Pudsey Ramble!

This afternoon the whole of Hamnavoe Primary School took part in a Pudsey Ramble to raise money for Children in Need. Everyone dressed up and followed Pudsey Bear around Hamnavoe on foot. We received lots of donations from members of the community.  When we got back to the school, everyone enjoyed some musical entertainment and refreshments.

Thanks to everyone who donated home bakes, to Peter Woods for providing the music, to everyone who joined in the ramble and to everyone who donated money! A grand total of £658 was been raised!

Listen in to BBC Radio Shetland tonight at 6.10pm to listen to the Primary 7 pupils of Hamnavoe Primary hosting Give Us A Tune.
