As part of our shape topic we learned about the famous artist Piet Mondrian. We made our own interpretations of his work.
Everyone practised their cutting skills. It’s tricky to cut straight lines! We had to think about how to place our square and rectangles. The end result looks fantastic!

This afternoon the class learned about the famous artist Kandinsky. They learned that he was from Russian and enjoyed painting abstract pictures while he listened to music. As part of our shape topic, we were interested in his work and looked at which shapes he used. We also talked about what we liked and didn’t like about his work and how his work made us feel.
We were intersted in his squares with concentric circles.
P1 cut out circles and glued them on top of each other. They had to use cutting skills and ordering skills for this.
P2 drew around circular objects and then cut them out.
You will see soon what all of the circles helped to create!

On Tuesday P1 did some fantastic literacy work at the alliteration station, phonics area and letter formation areas.
Later, they practised their numeracy skills by laying out numbers 0-10 and matching the correct number of dots on a domino to the correct numeral.
During free play, some decided to build a tower using yoghurt pots! Miss Smith took a photo just after it fell down! It was really tall.

On Friday everyone in P1/2 enjoyed spending time playing with friends. There were great models being build in the Lego. We especially liked the ferry and oil rig. In the water tray, the children were pretending to make ice-creams.
The class spent time learning about 2D and 3D shapes. They spent time creating patterns and objects using the shapes.
In the afternoon, P2 played on Sumdog. They are part of the Scottish Sumdog Challenge. P2 have 1000 questions to answer in 1 week!

On Thursday Primary 1 & 2 worked hard on their number skills. Primary 1 sequenced numbers 0-10 and added towers or numicon to the correct numbers. Some even added counters as well. Primary 2 were sequencing numbers within 100. They enjoyed our new set of number beads to thread. Everyone worked so well with their partner.
