Junk Modelling

This week the class were thinking about how to stay safe whilst in a car.  We talked about the importance of wearing a seat belt and sitting in a car seat.  We then looked at the structure of a car and discussed the importance of things like head lights on a car.

After, everyone had great fun making their own model car.  P2 were challenged to see if they could construct a car which could move.  It was a great session for everyone to build on their vocabulary learning and to develop skills including creativity, communication, negotiation, problem solving and team work.

Children in Need

Primary 1/2 had a great day raising money for Children in Need!  Lots of children came to school in their pyjamas and brought a teddy bear in with them.  In the afternoon, the whole school had a party!  Lots of members of the community joined us for an afternoon of teas and homebakes, games, dancing and a visit from Pudsey himself.  Here are a few of our highlights.

Road Safety with Ziggy

We have been learning about road safety.  We talked about how to stay safe on the road and how to be seen in winter.  The whole class enjoyed a walk around our local community to practise road safety skills.  We took Ziggy, the road safety maskot with us.  We all remembered to wear bright clothes to be seen, to walk on the inside of of the pavement and to look left and right before crossing the road.  Everyone was very sensible on our walk.  Well done Primary 1 and 2!

Creative and Imaginative Play

This morning the class have had a great time using their imagination to build a city around the train track.  They built flats, towers where people work, street lights, a heli-pad, the North Pole, Santa’s lair and so much more!  The yogurt pots are trees and the small cups are soldiers.  They counted 23 soldiers in total.  The children were using so many skills including team work, communication, creativity, building skills.  They were talking about numbers, shapes and much more!

Dads & Grandad’s

This morning some P1 and P2 Dad’s and Grandad’s came to join in our Monday morning lesson.

First we got into groups and talked about our weekend news.  P2 then went to work in a different area and let P1 stay in the classroom.  P1 had a great time showing their visitors how they do their news writing and drawing.  Once everyone was finished, they had some free-play.  Lots of children chose to play maths or spelling games.  The creativity going on with the train track was incredible.

Thanks to all the Dad’s and Grandad’s who came in this morning.  We had a super time and hope you did too!  It was lovely to see so much positive interaction with so many great male role models 🙂  Please come again soon!

Year of the Dad

Today we had our first Dad in spending time with P1 as part of the Year of the Dad campaign.  We have invited Dads, Step-Dad’s and Grandads in for a few play dates with the class.  It’s great to have more male role-models involved in the school learning community.  There are a few coming on Monday to help with News Writing!  Today we had lots of fun free-choose activities.  We hope you had great time.  The children certainly did!
