Our Autumn Adventures

We have been enjoying exploring Autumn in P2/3 this week! We have been noticing the changes happening around us and getting creative with some of the beautiful autumn colours.

We used leaves collected from the Community Garden to make our own leaf prints. The children chose different autumn colours and experimented with printing the leaves onto paper. These will become part of our Autumn display once it is finished.

While we were outside, some of the girls had lots of fun creating their own “raining leaves”!  They threw handfuls of leaves into the air and enjoyed watching them fall all around them. There were lots of smiles and laughter!

We also created some beautiful Autumn trees using bubble wrap. The children cut out a tree shape and then used autumnal colours with bubble wrap to dab and blot around the template, revealing the outline of their tree. It was a simple activity, but the class were incredibly engaged and really enjoyed watching their pictures come to life.

The finished trees look fantastic and will also be added to our autumn display.

I have loved seeing the children getting creative, exploring autumn colours and enjoying the season both inside and outdoors this week!

The Owl who was Afraid of the Dark

We loved reading this novel by Jill Tomlinson.  The class loved Plop, the cute owl with big eyes and knackety knees.

As a class we did lots of learning and activities to do with the story. The class wrote about Plop, did a book report about their favourite part – most picked him falling off the tree!  We improved our scissor skills with cutting out triangles to make a hedgehog (which we discovered can climb!).

Playing outdoors I asked the class to make nests for birds which they worked so hard on – one groups also had space for a hedgehog too!

Finally we made stars as the book is all about the dark and we used to tinfoil to make the words for what dark is.  We finished with a draw along with the illustrator Paul Howard.  They turned out great.

A super book!

Settling into P2/3

Hello

Welcome to our blog in P2/3 with me Mrs McClelland.

The class and I have had a wonderful few weeks settling in: getting to know each other, familiarising themselves with the new classroom, enjoying playing and learning together.  They have also met Brian The Bear – Mrs McClelland’s special bear.

Attached are some photos from the 1st 2 weeks as well as a curriculum overview of what is happening this term.

Thanks

Mrs McClelland 💌
