Our Enterprise Cafe was a fantastic interdisciplinary project, the children were responsible for organising and running an enterprise cafe for their families.<\/p>\n
The children:
\n– get a booklet to read with job descriptions for each of the jobs available at the enterprise cafe
\n– learn about their own skills and qualities to help them write an application form and prepare for an interview
\n– choose the job they want to apply for and write an application form
\n– get invited to a job interview in the school office with the headteacher and secretary
\n– prepare for their interview at home (interview questions are given in advance, along with the table that shows how their interview skills will be assessed)
\n– receive a job offer then start working as a staff team to plan the cafe
\n– design a menu
\n– take table bookings over the phone (parents were given a certain day to phone and book a table)
\n– write a shopping list for what they need for the menu using the Tesco app for rough prices
\n– use the shopping receipt to work out how much all the ingredients cost
\n– price the menu to ensure they can make a profit
\n– find recipes for what they need to bake\/cook
\n– learn about food hygiene procedures
\n– learn about customer service skills
\n– learn about assessing and minimising risks
\n– bake and cook what they need for the cafe menu
\n– set the classroom up as a cafe
\n– welcome customers into the cafe
\n– take customer orders
\n– prepare drinks and food orders
\n– serve food and drinks
\n– calculate bill totals
\n– work out change to be given
\n– clear tables
\n– wash dishes\/clean up
\n– count cash to get a total of takings
\n– count tips and equally divide them between all cafe employees
\n– subtract the cost of ingredients from total takings to work out the total profit
\n– reflect on and evaluate experience<\/p>\n
So much learning, life skills and fun!<\/p>\n
