Every Easter we have a Easter egg raffle where people donate Easter eggs and buy tickets, which cost 20p each. this year we were raising the money for Asha Niketan a school in India for orphan children or children whose parents can’t look after them. We each won an Easter egg and sometimes two !
All the Northmavine schools got together to perform in the music festival. Neive did a solo, the song was ‘Let it go’ from the film Frozen and got a bronze award . As a group we sang ‘Fare Well ta Yell’ and we got a silver award.
Today we had a visit from training architects from a University in Glasgow, other schools such as Mossbank, North Roe and Urafirth came to see them too. The architects showed us what they need to learn to be an architect, they showed us how to make buildings out of 3D triangles made from newspaper. They also showed us how to make a shadow show out of a light box by putting a phone or torch through the box and put a piece of paper with a picture of anything you like cut out in it in front of the box so it makes a shadow! Later we worked with the four senses, we tasted things to guess what it was and if we liked it or not, we had to shake a box with an item in it and guess what it was. The sounds were water, sand, nothing and screws. You also had to feel and it was great fun. There was also one that you had to make structures out of spaghetti like a box and see if it would stay up and how to make it better. We also got to play in the play ground with them, they played on the traversing wall with hoola hoops and other things. We had a fantastic day!
For after school club we went to the Luba beach. Some of us went in the sea and some of us collected stuff then we climbed the rocks. We then played in the sand.
Today it is a lovely day so we went outside, we played on the grass, then went and played pirates on the pirate ship. Then we saw the planting beds and we thought we should help weed it and turn the soil up. We threw out the weeds and found some peculiar items, like a clothes peg, and a fork !!!!
We planted some wild flower seeds with a little bit of sand too!
At after school club we did Easter crafts . The big ones did pottery baskets and sun catchers . The little ones did sun catchers. We all did flower bombs. A flower bomb is shredded paper, and wild flower seeds. You can put the flower bombs out in the garden.
Today we got to do tie die at after school club for Mothers day presents. The next day we got to make Mothers day cards we put flowers on them with tissue paper. This is how we did it we folded them in a certain way and then we cut it at the corner it was really fun. This is our results.
We have been donating pocket sized toys for the child refugees in Syria. This is because they have had to abandon all their toys and belongings in their homes and move away with nothing. The toys had to be pocket sized as the gifts need to fit inside pockets or boots.
This photograph is of us organising and counting the toys. We collected 149 toys altogether in just 2 weeks!
We started to pack, but there was one problem the box had to weigh less than 10kg. Phew it only weighed 8.3kg! The box was too big for the bathroom scales so we had to weigh Holly first by herself and then with the box. Then we took Holly’s weight away!
We feel proud of ourselves for helping the refugees. We hope that it brightens their lives and makes them happy.
