Welcome back!

Hello everybody and welcome to a new term at Mossbank Primary school!

Everyone seems in good spirits and seem to have enjoyed the holidays.

I can’t believe it’s the Christmas term already, even with all the lockdowns this year seems to have flown by.

The termly newsletter has been emailed out and is also in the blog.  The new School Improvement plan is also available.

There is a Parent Council EGM on  Wednesday 3rd at 7pm via Webex.  Unfortunately,  at the last meeting we didn’t have enough people to form a committee.  The parent council plays an important part in the life of the school – if you can spare an hour to attend we would be delighted.

Let’s hope we can have a settled, Covid-free term!

Kind regards

Jennifer

Simple but highly beneficial

Throwing and Aiming

We set up a simple activity within ELC to allow the bairns to have some practice throwing and aiming using some different sized balls and bean bags. This activity can be done simply by using a bucket and some balls for the bairns to throw in. We added numbers to an upturned table to add in some number recognition as well.

This activity is so simple but has so many benefits such as; builds hand-eye coordination, gross and fine motor skills, spatial awareness, grasping skills, problem-solving skills, balance, and even language and social skills.

So simple you can do it at home too!!

Mini-Mes

Primary 1-3 have been playing with some familiar looking action figures! These little “mini-mes” in our small world play area have helped us in our discussions about friendship, as well as encouraging creativity, supporting language development and developing interpersonal skills.

Opening The Den

It has been a busy start to the term for Primary 1-3! On the first day of this session we officially opened “The Den”, our new learning space directly opposite our classroom. Mrs Nisbet cut the ribbon to mark the occasion, and over the past few weeks lots of exciting literacy, numeracy and play has already taken place!

New waterwall in ELC

Great excitement in ELC today as there has been a new water wall installed outside. Bairns had great fun watching where the water went. The bairns were even using the pipes as ramps for cars to go down and this was just soo hilarious to them. “This is sooo fun!” “This is really really fun.” There was high amounts of curiosity as to where the water went when it was on the floor, checking every time they added more water to the wall if the puddle got bigger.

Is it a Bird or is it a plane?

Great Excitement in ELC today! The children heard a plane while they were eating their lunch and said “can we go see the plane after lunch.” Was great fun spotting the plane outside and watching it fly over, sparking wonderful conversations about what it was doing and where it may be going. 🛫

Hop, Skip and Bounce

The children have loved playing in the gym hall this week. They have requested to play through there twice! They have been learning how to move their bodies in various ways, through balancing, jumping, running and hopping. They have been developing their hand eye-coordination through bean bag tossing, throwing and catching and a game of badminton!
