{"id":1704,"date":"2024-05-13T09:26:00","date_gmt":"2024-05-13T08:26:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/sh\/midyelljuniorhigh\/?p=1704"},"modified":"2024-05-13T09:26:00","modified_gmt":"2024-05-13T08:26:00","slug":"ypi-final-2024","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/sh\/midyelljuniorhigh\/2024\/05\/13\/ypi-final-2024\/","title":{"rendered":"YPI Final 2024"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Wednesday 8 May 2024, the school hosted our annual YPI final \u2013 The Youth Philanthropy Initiative (YPI), involving S3 from Mid Yell and Baltasound Junior High Schools.<\/p>\n<p>YPI is an initiative managed and funded (with contributions from schools and partner organisations) by The Wood Foundation. The initiative was launched in 2008 and involves schools all over Scotland. \u00a0\u201cYPI fits our school values of \u201cLearning at the Heart of our ISLAND\u2019. \u00a0It helps to build a culture and puts the values into action \u2013 <strong>I<\/strong>nclusive, <strong>S<\/strong>upportive, <strong>L<\/strong>earning, <strong>A<\/strong>spirational, <strong>N<\/strong>urturing and <strong>D<\/strong>eveloping.<\/p>\n<p>This year, there were a total of five teams \u2013 three from Mid Yell and two from Baltasound, each choosing a social issue and then selecting a Shetland based charity to support. This year, the charities represented were: The Compass Centre; Ability Shetland; Space2Face Shetland; Mind Your Head; and Shetland Bereavement Support Service.\u00a0 The level of work and commitment of all the teams in engaging with and researching their chosen charity was evident to all and all the teams delivered presentations of a very high standard. \u00a0All teams spoke passionately, raising awareness of each charity of the vital role they play in supporting Shetland community.\u00a0 All described how completing this project had developed their wider skills, including: confidence, taking initiative, communication, independence, responsibility and supporting each other.\u00a0 These greatly impressed the judges who had a tough task in deciding who would win the final and have the opportunity of presenting a cheque for \u00a33000 to their charity.<\/p>\n<p>After careful consideration, the judging panel selected the Mid Yell JH team who had presented on behalf of <strong>Shetland Bereavement Support Service<\/strong>: <em>Honey Henderson, Chloe Kennedy, Aaron Kennerly and Hunter Coutts.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/sh\/public\/midyelljuniorhigh\/uploads\/sites\/3465\/2024\/05\/13092529\/Arven-Yell-YPI_6.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-1705\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/sh\/public\/midyelljuniorhigh\/uploads\/sites\/3465\/2024\/05\/13092529\/Arven-Yell-YPI_6-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"960\" height=\"640\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/sh\/public\/midyelljuniorhigh\/uploads\/sites\/3465\/2024\/05\/13092529\/Arven-Yell-YPI_6-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/sh\/public\/midyelljuniorhigh\/uploads\/sites\/3465\/2024\/05\/13092529\/Arven-Yell-YPI_6-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/sh\/public\/midyelljuniorhigh\/uploads\/sites\/3465\/2024\/05\/13092529\/Arven-Yell-YPI_6-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/sh\/public\/midyelljuniorhigh\/uploads\/sites\/3465\/2024\/05\/13092529\/Arven-Yell-YPI_6.jpg 1260w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 960px) 100vw, 960px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On Wednesday 8 May 2024, the school hosted our annual YPI final \u2013 The Youth Philanthropy Initiative (YPI), involving S3 from Mid Yell and Baltasound Junior High Schools.
