{"id":1017,"date":"2023-02-07T13:36:38","date_gmt":"2023-02-07T13:36:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/sh\/midyelljuniorhigh\/?p=1017"},"modified":"2023-02-07T13:36:38","modified_gmt":"2023-02-07T13:36:38","slug":"engineering-the-future-for-girls-programme-2023","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/sh\/midyelljuniorhigh\/2023\/02\/07\/engineering-the-future-for-girls-programme-2023\/","title":{"rendered":"Engineering the Future for Girls Programme 2023"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I was selected to go to Strathclyde University on 26-27 January 2023 for the Engineering the Future for Girls Programme.<\/p>\n<p>When I arrived at the Uni I was put into group F with Amy, Lucie, Rosie, Lana, Lily, Maria and Abby, we got to be friends.\u00a0 During two days we learned about different areas of engineering:\u00a0 Civil &amp; Environmental, Mechanical &amp; Aerospace, Chemical &amp; Process and Biomedical.<\/p>\n<p>For each engineering area we were first given a presentation about what it involved and then we did an activity.\u00a0 For civil &amp; environmental engineering we had a build a bridge out of spaghetti and loom bands.\u00a0 All the activities were like that and we had to work as a team.<\/p>\n<p>For each engineering area we got to meet new people. \u00a0They told us about the job and how they got there \u2013 the college\/university they went to and the subjects they studied.\u00a0 All of them said maths and physics are very important subjects for every engineering areas.<\/p>\n<p>I learned that if you study at Strathclyde you can do a years work experience to get practical experience eg in biomedical engineering you could go to a hospital or company that makes prosthetic limbs.<\/p>\n<p>I really enjoyed my two days and the people I met.<\/p>\n<p>If anyone gets the chance to go I would recommend it.<a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/sh\/midyelljuniorhigh\/2023\/02\/07\/engineering-the-future-for-girls-programme-2023\/lisa\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-1018\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1018 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/sh\/public\/midyelljuniorhigh\/uploads\/sites\/3465\/2023\/02\/07133600\/Lisa-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/sh\/public\/midyelljuniorhigh\/uploads\/sites\/3465\/2023\/02\/07133600\/Lisa-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/sh\/public\/midyelljuniorhigh\/uploads\/sites\/3465\/2023\/02\/07133600\/Lisa-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/sh\/public\/midyelljuniorhigh\/uploads\/sites\/3465\/2023\/02\/07133600\/Lisa.jpg 945w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I was selected to go to Strathclyde University on 26-27 January 2023 for the Engineering the Future for Girls Programme.
