Today we held a soup and bannocks day at the school. We held it to get some of the community of Fetlar together to enjoy some soup and bannocks. Although it was a first time for making soup, we enjoyed it, a few of the things they made were scones, bannocks, and lentil soup. All of the guests enjoyed their food and at the end of the day we managed to raise £80.
Red Nose Day
Red Nose Day is a day when people go to school or work wearing a red nose. Red Nose Day was invented in 1985 by a group of people called Comic Relief to raise money to tackle the root of poverty and social injustice. To tackle the roots they raise around £1,000,000 by holding 2 events called Red Nose Day and Sport Relief.
We at Fetlar Primary School held our Red Nose Day on Monday 18th March. We started it by giving out sheets of paper to whoever came so they could answer the general knowledge quiz that was on it. After everyone had done the quiz we announced that the winner would get a special prize. Then a few people had their face painted by one of our students. We decided to paint faces and noses so we don’t use as much plastic. Whilst that was happening other people were having a go at the bean bag throw (which also had a special prize.)
After all of the fun happened we counted how much we raised and we managed to raise £32.00. We sent all of the money to Comic Relief and the £32.00 we raised was raised only by a few people! The prizes were a chocolate bar for the winner of the quiz and for the winner of the bean bag throw they won a chocolate bar also, second place won some sticky notes.
Belated Pancakes!
We made drop scones and pancakes. They were delicious. Nursery wrote the recipe for us and we followed it exactly! The P7 boys decided they would like to practice their culinary skills more often!
Kapla Blocks
We have a trial of 1000 Kapla blocks in school at the moment. Lots of creativity going on, along with literacy, numeracy and maths!
Mr Thomson says we can keep them 🙂
Bridge End – Monday
We’ve had a really busy day, lots of swimming, a quick visit round Commercial Street, lunch at Clickimin and then off to Bridge End!
Joy has come to do drumming with us, then were having tea and a games night.
Pancake Day
We held out coffee morning today with a Pancake theme.
We had lots of different toppings, and made our own pancakes.
We raised £35.55 in donations from our guests – thank you!
Geodesic dome igloo
Nursery is learning about winter, so we made them a geodesic dome!
We used instructions from this site, and recycled the back drop we made from our Christmas show. 
First we had to make templates and draw a lot of triangles!
Then we had to cut them out and fold the flaps. It was really important we were accurate in our cutting and folding, we had to fix some of them later!
Then we had to start taping them all together so we could make the shape of the dome.
Finally it was ready to for nursery to play with! We tried it out as well 🙂
Halloween!
There is a potion station set up in Nursery, even P6 and 7 have been creating new concoctions!
Our role play corner is a witches cave, but we have bikes instead of broom sticks!
Neolithic Shetland
Chris is an archaeologist. He works for the Shetland Amenity Trust
He came to Fetlar and took us for a walk. We found a Burnt mound and explored a broch.
We went to visit Old Scatness. We had lunch in the round house. The carved stones were really interesting.
Beach Redd Up
We picked up all the rubbish. There was some sand hoppers.
We had loads of fun.
