Another exciting opportunity for the Draatsi class this year has been \u00a0working alongside the Children\u2019s Parliament finding out more about Children\u2019s Rights. \u00a0Included in this, is the chance to find out more about Artificial Intelligence from the staff at The Alan Turing Institute. \u00a0We had a visit from Gregory and his fellow workers at the Children\u2019s Parliament back in October and they took over our class for the day.<\/p>\n

The whole day was spent working in groups on activities centred around the rights of the child.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

We created a jigsaw to help us understand the \u2018Articles\u2019 that make up the United Nations Rights of the Child.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Still with a focus on our rights and what we as children need, we created different lands to live where you would feel safe, secure and valued. \u00a0We also thought what a land would look and feel like if this wasn\u2019t the case.<\/p>\n

After this visit, three Investigators were chosen to represent our class at the online meetings we have regularly with other schools across Scotland. \u00a0The Investigators take part in activities online and report back to the rest of the class and explain how the \u2018Missions\u2019 we have to complete need to be carried out. \u00a0They then report back online, saying how we got on and asking any questions.<\/p>\n

Our first few tasks, or Missions, were all about what we understand about Artificial Intelligence just now. \u00a0The pupils were all given interview sheets to take home to question their family members. \u00a0Gregory was really pleased with our completed interviews so a big thank you for your support with this at home. \u00a0Mrs Henderson and I are very much learning along with the class on this!<\/p>\n

In another \u2018Mission\u2019, we used a map of our local area to mark on our homes, significant places and where we thought AI (Artificial Intelligence) is being used. \u00a0This was a tricky task and after talking to the staff at the Alan Turing Institute, we learned that some examples we thought of were not actually AI e.g. \u00a0the scanners at the airport.<\/p>\n
