{"id":1896,"date":"2019-12-19T19:43:33","date_gmt":"2019-12-19T19:43:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/sh\/dunrossnessp56\/?p=1896"},"modified":"2019-12-19T19:43:33","modified_gmt":"2019-12-19T19:43:33","slug":"christmas-cards-and-poetry","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.glowscotland.org.uk\/sh\/dunrossnessp56\/2019\/12\/19\/christmas-cards-and-poetry\/","title":{"rendered":"Christmas Cards &#8230; and Poetry"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I hope you have found your lovely Christmas card that was sent home today! \u00a0This class enjoy craft work and created really striking winter tree paintings for their cards.<\/p>\n<p>We also used these pictures to inspire us to do some creative writing. \u00a0We went out into the nature garden to look at the winter trees and gather words, phrases and ideas for our work. \u00a0Back in class, we looked at various free style poems to give us more inspiration before creating our own. \u00a0The poems needed to sound as if we were having a conversation with the tree. \u00a0They needed to have questions and repetition within it and they were not to rhyme. \u00a0This proved harder than we thought! \u00a0Some excellent pieces were created, very quickly. \u00a0Here are some of my favourite lines&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Dream and dream until the sun shines through to wake you up, winter tree. \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0(Amy)<\/p>\n<p>Tall and elegant, but dead looking inside so bare and brown. \u00a0(Fergus)<\/p>\n<p>Will your leaves ever return? \u00a0Lying dormant on the ground but in the summer you\u2019re tall and proud. \u00a0(Magnus)<\/p>\n<p>Trees do you hear me? \u00a0How do you feel? \u00a0What do you see? \u00a0Dusted with frost. \u00a0(Fiona)<\/p>\n<p>Oh winter tree, how do you survive the harsh, harsh cold winter? \u00a0(Matthew)<\/p>\n<p>Oh cold frosty tree, how do you stand so strong and proud in the strong winter breeze? (Hannah)<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019ll speak to you next year but now it\u2019s time to sleep, sleep, sleep. (Isabel)<\/p>\n<p>No reply came from the winter tree. \u00a0Then I wonder&#8230;\u00a0Is he alive? (Robbie)<\/p>\n<p>The newly fallen snow is&#8230;hair. \u00a0It\u2019s winter, tree. \u00a0(Ellie)<\/p>\n<p>I don\u2019t know how you can stand so tall and proud in this bitter wind. \u00a0(Kelsi)<\/p>\n<p>Are you cold? \u00a0Surely you are! \u00a0Will your leaves ever come back? \u00a0You\u2019re so naked. \u00a0Soon your leaves will return. \u00a0Just keep dreaming and dreaming. \u00a0(Liam)<\/p>\n<p>Oh tree so cold, bent and old. \u00a0Your pine cones so spiky. \u00a0Do you feel it if you bend so bold?
