On Wednesday afternoon of 28th April, p2/3 enjoyed taking part in our school clean up of Boddam beach.

The weather seemed against us as it came heavy rain over lunchtime and was not looking to ease when we started again for the afternoon.  However we took the chance and by the time we had walked down to the beach the rain had stopped and it was warm and sunny!

Everyone worked hard and we collected 10 full bags of rubbish along with a good pile of items that couldn’t fit into bags!  And that was only from the cleaner end of the beach!  Still plenty more to collect.

More from Christmas week!

As we had been learning about 2D and 3D shapes in maths recently, on Tuesday for maths we made Christmas boxes from nets of 3D shapes-a cube and a triangular based pyramid decorated with Christmas designs.

Then on Wednesday we painted our salt dough Christmas decorations.  (Near disaster-I didn’t realise our clock had stopped and wondered why there was a bell going at 2.25pm!  We still had to tidy up and pack bags!!!!  But we made it on time. )

On Thursday we had our Christmas party which everyone enjoyed.  Unfortunately we were having so much fun and were so busy that I  forgot to take photos-Sorry!

On Friday it was pyjama day, whole school quiz and pantomine in the afternoon.  It was great and the popcorn and ice cream was very good too!

As this will be the last blog for this term, I would just like to wish everyone a very happy, safe and healthy Christmas season!


It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in p2/3!

Last week in p2/3 we were learning about the season of Advent and we have made our window display into an Advent calendar.  Today we listened to the Christmas Story and decorated our class Christmas tree.  We are looking forward to opening our doors and making our contributions to the Giving Advent Calendar as well.

P2/3 Updates

Last week in p2/3 we were learning about Diwali, the Hindu festival of light.  We listened to the story of Rama and Sita and rewrote it in our own words, picking out the main ideas.  We all enjoyed making Diva lamps from clay and are already asking when we can make some more things from clay!

Unfortunately we are not able to do baking but some people wanted to take home a recipe for some traditional Diwali sweet treats to try out at home.

We also coloured Rangoli patterns and put them on our door and windows.  (should be on our doorstep!)   Some people remembered to try to colour them symmetrically.

Today we have been painting our lamps and can’t wait to take them home!

Halloween and Bonfire night

On the first week back at school primary 2/3 enjoyed making some Halloween decorations and writing spooky Halloween acrostic poems.

In week 2 we learned about Guy Fawkes and the Gunpowder plot.  We made some super firey bonfire pictures and used our senses to write bonfire poems.

Term 1

I can’t believe that our first term back at school is almost over.  It’s been a whirlwind and passed really quickly!

The class have been working hard on their numeracy, literacy and Health & Wellbeing.  They have been learning about time and seasons in their topic work.

There have been lots of changes to get used to.  The children have all adjusted well and taken everything in their stride.

Here are some of their comments:

Kirsty-It’s been different having takeaway lunch boxes instead of trays.

Sophie- Thumbs up!  I’ve enjoyed school!

Ruby-It’s strange not having lots of toys to play with.

Sophia-It’s wierd using hand sanitizer all the time and sharing a toilet with the boys!

Scarlett-It’s strange having a cleaner coming in and out of class at different times!

Ella-It feels wierd having to wear a face mask on the bus.

Alexander-It’s wierd that we can’t give people Hi fives!

Lucille-It’s strange having to wipe things all the time.

Alec-I don’t like that I can’t bring toys into school.

Anri-We can’t fist bump!

Freya-We can’t hug friends!

Andrew-It’s different having teachers come into the classroom.

Peter-Its’s different just sitting with one person and not in groups.

Owen-It’s strange not queuing for lunch and choosing our lunch in the mornings.

Jasmin-It’s different having our own packs for pencils and stuff and not sharing.


Here are some things we have enjoyed this term:

Freya-I’ve liked going to the library again.

Anri-My favourite is playtime with my friends.

Rory-I’ve liked learning about the seasons.

Scarlett-Learning about the Earth, Moon and Sun.

Peter-Having lots of pizza for lunch!

Kirsty-I like the new way of doing lunches.

Alexander-I have enjoyed getting back to work again!

Dylan-I have enjoyed playtimes with my friends.

Jasmin-I have enjoyed playing Sumdog on the laptops.

Hello everyone!

I hope that you are all managing fine. You will hopefully be embracing some much needed family time and not missing school too much.

I know that you were given some activities to complete at home when we finished on Friday. After the success of our Acrostic Poem activity for Fireworks I thought it would be a nice idea to write an acrostic poem about somebody in class.

Could you please reply in the comments section to this post with an acrostic poem using the name of the person sitting on your right in class (going around your table of 3 or 4) think of personal qualities that person has – much like we’ve been doing in jigsaw. I have put an example poem below using ‘Our Class’.

I look forward to reading your poems and seeing you all again when this situation is resolved. I’m missing our little P2/3 team!

Programmers of the future?

What a busy day we’ve had in P2/3 today – our first school swimming lesson of the year and learning how to code for the afternoon!

There was a lot of excitement this afternoon as we got the chance to work in pairs and try to write a code for our very own robots! After discussion and onboard demonstrations on how to make their robot change it’s appearance, make a sound and move, the pupils were set off to see if they could write their own code. We then shared this with the rest of the class.

There was a lot of learning that took place and because it seemed like a game (with the use of a robot) the class took it all in their stride and did amazingly well – I’m very proud of them all!

We were working with the Makeblock Codey Rocky robots which uses a Scratch platform. This is a great way to introduce young or old into coding as it uses a simple block based system which is very easy to understand and provides a quick result. Not only was every group able to get their robot to perform the three key actions that we had learned but they could all present their code to the class and explain what they thought it should do. They were also able to share this onto the big screen from their iPad by discovering the ‘screen mirroring’ option!!


We are all looking forward to developing our coding skills further in the future!
