We have been doing lots of preparation for our Halloween Party!
We have also been doing lots of Halloween Activities!
Then we had our Halloween Disco where we had all the children come into the morning session! We danced under disco lights, did ghost sack races, hoop and witches hat game, party games and pin the spider on the web!
What a great couple of weeks we had! Everyone’s costumes were amazing! 🙂
The weather has been so good lately we have been able to go to the park and play!
“I can see a Pirate ship coming! Hide!”
“They are coming in and fast!”
“We better hide the treasure map and the treasure”
“Quick up back onto our ship!”
Hope everyone has a super October Holidays and lets hope the weather stays great!
We have been making our own pizzas with different shaped toppings this week.
We have been cutting out and making our pizza bases at the baking station.
And covering them in different toppings at our toppings station.
“Mines a stuffed crust with pepperoni, bacon and cheese!”
“Mines got tomato sauce! This is a tomato because it’s a circle”
“This is cucumber cause its a green circle!”
“This square bit is my ham.”
“This is pepperoni see with the cirlces and the dots- it’s an everything feast pizza”
After they were cooked on the drying rack we cut them into slices some were cut in half and some into quarters.
“I’m slicing my pizza up. One piece for my friend and another piece for my other friend!”
We have been learning about different parts of our bodies; their names and their functions. We also have been making our own human body models.
We have two lungs and they work together to make us breathe. They also pump oxygen around our body and to our brain.
The wall of our heart is made of really strong muscles that squeeze and relax to pump blood around our body through our veins.
Our esophagus is a tube that connects our throat to our stomach.
Our stomach breaks up our food we eat using the acid and strong muscles in our stomach walls. (someone seems to of eaten one of the nursery cars- uh oh)
Our intestines break down our food even more so that all the vitamins and minerals pass through the wall of our intestines.
We got our skeleton man out (who we now call Gaston after a carpet time discussion) to figure out where all the parts of our bodies go and what they actually look like.
Then we put our body parts we made together and made our own models!
We have been looking at our senses this week and focusing on Listening and Tasting.
Yesterday we did a texture taste test to decide what different foods felt like. First we tasted them and then put them in different categories. We learnt lots of new describing words; crunchy, gooey, squidgy, slimy, rough, smooth and more.
Today we looked at our tongues and which part of our tongues taste our food (taste buds) and decide whether its sour, bitter, sweet or salty. We tried lemons, limes, oranges, syrup, salt, pretzels and mint leaves. (we did pull some funny faces too)
Some of our results…
We also made fruit kebabs and smoothies!
Today has been a super busy day!
Someone brought a recipe in for us to try to bake today- Honey Biscuits!
First we had to measure out all the ingredients…
We then mixed it all together, placed it on a baking tray and popped it in the oven…
It wasn’t quite the Great British Bake off since Miss Handley forgot an important ingredient (oops) but we had fun making the cookies anyway!
Today we made vegetable soup!
First we peeled and chopped the carrots
We then peeled and chopped the potatoes
Then we cut the celery
Then we cut the parsley
Then we peeled and cut the onions
Sometimes the onions make us pull funny faces!
Then we cut the courgette
Then we threw it all in a pan and cooked it
Then blended it
Then we ate our soup for snack and we even gave some to Mrs Leslie! So yum!!
Mrs Arnett brought us loads of cardboard boxes and cardboard tubes to play and build with!
We were using masking tape, cellotape and tools to join our creations together.
“Mend it we needs lots of tape”
“It needs to be fixed.”
We then started decorating our models with glue, glitter, pictures and paint whatever way we wanted!
“I’m making a valley, it’s a kind of house, today I’m making it with all my favourite things; boxes, colours and paint.”
“It’s a Miko House, we are making it super strong. Its got holes in it because its really old, it’s got super powers. I painted it, now its dry.”
We then got to build with them, hide in them and play with them!
We have gone from making, “bomb shelters” to “Candy floss machines!” and “A construction site.”
“These pipes make it really strong.”
Everyone was so busy this morning and so creative!
Both sessions of Nursery have been getting dialect singing on Wednesdays with Miss Barclay.
Miss Barclay was showing us her puppets and soft toys.
There was Berty the sheepdog who was giving us high 5’s and cuddles (which we also sang about)…
We learnt the Shetland word for each animal puppet that Miss Barclay had. There was a Dratsie, Selkie, Sheltie, Drummy Bee and a Tammie Norie. We did very well at remembering all the names.
We sang and danced to a song called the, “Laevericks song.”
We had to be flying peerie Laevericks;
Then Drummie Bees;
We also sang a song called, “Da Rabbit’s Lullaby” about a Bunny called Fluffy. We had to be so gentle and quiet with Fluffy. We had a funny joke where we had to fall asleep at the end too!
