Musical Visit to Overtonlea

Choir members and instrumentalists from P5-7 visited Overtonlea today to entertain everyone there with a variety of musical items and songs, including Christmas carols and traditional pieces.

Emily, Cerys and Jemima started off the programme  by performing Little Donkey on the fiddle.

Solo performances included Cerys playing Babba Lisa’s Polka,

Emily playing the New Year Waltz,

and Jemima playing O’ Little Town of Bethlehem.

The woodwind group, Shaina, Carys, Niamh, Molly, Katie and Ruby, along with Archie on the hornet and accompanied by Mrs Morton, then played a selection of group and solo items including Deck the Halls and Jingle Bells.

Solo performances included Lauryn playing Away in a Manger, Carys playing Spring Carol and Niamh playing The First Nowell.

The choir then sang a selection of traditional carols and modern Christmas songs including The Calypso Carol and Away in a Manger which they sang in Shetland dialect.

A few smiles were raised when they sang I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas!

The performance finished off with everyone joining the choir to sing ‘We Wish You A Merry Christmas’.

Everyone had a lovely time and thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

There was even time for juice, sweets and biscuits for the thirsty performers before we had to head back to school.

Christie said, “It was really good fun. I hope all the people enjoyed it.”

Cerys commented, “The atmosphere was really good.”

Ayla and Carys both felt it was good that everyone joined in with the singing and that everyone seemed to have had a good time.

Katie said, “I really enjoyed playing in front of an audience.”
