Merry Christmas

We’re nearly there!  Just a couple of hours to go.

What a busy term this has been with lots going on.  I think the bairns have all done really well but are in need of their holidays now!  Time at home to relax and enjoy the build up of excitement for Christmas Day.

I hope you all have a very merry Christmas and I wish you all a happy and healthy New Year!

Musical Visit to Overtonlea

Choir members and instrumentalists from P5-7 visited Overtonlea today to entertain everyone there with a variety of musical items and songs, including Christmas carols and traditional pieces.

Emily, Cerys and Jemima started off the programme  by performing Little Donkey on the fiddle.

The choir then sang a selection of traditional carols and modern Christmas songs including The Calypso Carol and Away in a Manger which they sang in Shetland dialect.

A few smiles were raised when they sang I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas!

The performance finished off with everyone joining the choir to sing ‘We Wish You A Merry Christmas’.

Everyone had a lovely time and thoroughly enjoyed themselves.

There was even time for juice, sweets and biscuits for the thirsty performers before we had to head back to school.

Christie said, “It was really good fun. I hope all the people enjoyed it.”

Cerys commented, “The atmosphere was really good.”

Ayla and Carys both felt it was good that everyone joined in with the singing and that everyone seemed to have had a good time.

Katie said, “I really enjoyed playing in front of an audience.”

Food bank delivery

📦 Reece, Luke and John Magnus helped John and Ms Scanlan take all the food items up to Lerwick today. Thank you so much to everyone who has contributed to our collection, let’s hope it helps give others a better time at Christmas 🎄  Mr Grieve met us there and answered lots of questions about the foodbank and after Christmas he is going to come to our school and talk about all the work that he does.

Fundraising Thanks

Thank you very much for your generosity for both Christmas Jumper Day and school funds.

We raised  £302.90 for Save the Children through wearing our Christmas Jumpers, staff Secret Santa and Christmas card donations.

Christmas card deliveries, Christmas Play photos and donations on the door raised an amazing  £1348.18 for school funds.

Thank you all very much for your continued support of the school.  We couldn’t do it without such a wonderfully supportive school community.

Merry Christmas to you all and the very best wishes for a happy and healthy 2017!

Snow White and the Seven Jockeys

Wow!  Just home from the evening performance and what a brilliant show!  Well done one and all for the hard work that went into the production.

Thanks to all the class teachers for working on their scenes in class, to Mrs Inkster for the music and singing, Mrs J Smith for the movement and dance, John for the scenery, props, lightning, sound, photos and everything else he does to make sure the shows run smoothly.  Thanks to Mrs Leslie for her hard work in producing the whole show.   I know plans are already afoot for next year’s shows!

Thanks to Izzy Swanson too for her help and support too.

When I thanked folk tonight I forgot to mention Mrs Casey and Mrs Graydon for all their hard work in making props and costumes!  Sorry!

It was wonderful to see a full house tonight!  It is great for the bairns to have such a wonderful and receptive audience to perform to.

Finally thank you to all the bairns who took part in the show.  You are all super stars.  I am so very proud of you all.  What a wonderful, talented bunch you are!

I didn’t get many photos but here are a couple of our fetching panto dames!

Christmas Dinner and Christmas Jumper Day!

What a super day we have had at school!  Everyone has come dressed in their Christmas jumpers to help raise money for ‘Save the Children.’

We have also have a wonderful Christmas lunch.  It was excellent to see Caroline back in the kitchen for the day!  It was also really good to see so many ex members of staff.

Thanks to everyone for coming.  See you all next year!
