Shetland Football/Netball Tournament

Thanks to Steve Bell for the photo and a run down of results for our football team.

The results in the group stage were

Beat Hamnavoe 2-0

Drew with Cunningsburgh 1-1

Lost to Sound 0-1

Beat Scalloway 2-0

They qualified for the Cup competition (by my calculations in 2nd place behind Sound). I have the results for the other teams in their Group!

In the quarter finals they took the lead against Bells Brae A, but the game ended 1-1! They held their nerve and won on penalties 6-5.

This result created quite a flurry of excitement as Bells Brae A were the hot favourites to win the cup!

In the semi-final they again faced Sound but lost 0-2. Sound went on to win in the final and were the only team to beat Dunrossness all day!

Netball

Thank you to Fiona Byrne-McCombie and Judy Fraser for accompanying our netballers.  The team played really well and came 5th out of 15 teams.

Thank you to Joan Smith, Fiona Byrne-McCombie and Ruth Christie for their hard work coaching the team.

  1. Congratulations to the football team and the netball team !
The netball team did a brilliant job everyone played extemely well , great team work by everyone you should be very pleased with yourselves and I am very proud of you all .

  2. The netball team started the day off well with a 6-3 win against Brae which gave them a good start to the tourament . Dunrossness went on to win 3 more of their games , losing 2 and drawing one . The team came 3rd over all in their round of games . To decide on 5th or 6th place overall they had to play against Sandwick which was a very tightly fought game . There was some excellent passing and defending from Dunrossness . At full time it was a 2-2 draw so went to extra time with excellent team work from Dunrossness which led to the winning goal and a 5th place win .

    1. I am so impressed with the team. Thank you Fiona for all the hard work you and Ruth have put in! It is great to see them all play so well together but they are also very encouraging and supportive of other teams.

  3. I would like to say thank you to the Dunrossness Football team for getting us to the semi-finals. Despite losing to the eventual winners as the captain I thought we did very well.
