We have had another busy and exciting week packed full of learning, creativity and teamwork!<\/p>\n
This week, we completed our final spelling activities of the year. The children explored their spelling words in a variety of creative ways, including writing with chalk, painting, drawing and using different practical activities to help reinforce their learning.<\/p>\n
On Monday, we enjoyed a special Rock, Paper, Scissors Day<\/strong> inspired by the story The Legend of Rock, Paper, Scissors<\/em><\/strong>. We began by reading the story together before creating our own Fair Play Charter<\/strong>, discussing what it means to be respectful, inclusive and a good sport when taking part in games and competitions.<\/p>\n We then held a class debate, discussing whether it is better to win all the time<\/strong> or to find challenge and learn from mistakes<\/strong>. The children shared thoughtful opinions and listened respectfully to one another’s ideas.<\/p>\n In the afternoon, the children became inventors, creating their own new Rock, Paper, Scissors characters<\/strong>. They thought carefully about the strengths and weaknesses of their creations, deciding who they could beat and who could beat them. This led to interesting discussions about fairness and balance in games.<\/p>\n Rock, Paper, Scissors Day also provided a fantastic opportunity for some practical maths learning.<\/p>\n The children played a series of Rock, Paper, Scissors games and made predictions about who might win. We discussed the language of probability<\/strong>, using terms such as impossible<\/em>, unlikely<\/em>, possible<\/em>, likely<\/em> and certain<\/em>.<\/p>\n The children collected their results using tally charts<\/strong> before turning their data into bar graphs<\/strong>, helping them develop their data handling skills.<\/p>\n Later in the week, we completed our work on area<\/strong>, exploring how different shapes can have the same area despite looking very different. We also linked our learning to the World Cup by investigating the area of football pitches.<\/p>\n The children also completed some Sumdog assessments<\/strong>, giving them an opportunity to demonstrate the progress they have made throughout the year.<\/p>\n We have continued our daily World Cup starters<\/strong>, which have become a real favourite in class.<\/p>\n Each morning, we have listened to a story from a different country around the world before learning about its culture, capital city and interesting facts. We have located countries on our world map and continued tracking World Cup results as the tournament progresses.<\/p>\n The children also created some fantastic World Cup artwork<\/strong>, designing Highland cows dressed in football kits. Some chose Scotland, while others selected one of the countries they have been following during the tournament.<\/p>\n This week was an incredibly busy and exciting one for our caf\u00e9 enterprise project as preparations came to life.<\/p>\n The children spent time:<\/p>\n We discussed how to welcome customers, take orders politely and work together to ensure the caf\u00e9 ran smoothly.<\/p>\n We were absolutely delighted with the success of our caf\u00e9 and would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who came along to support us. The children were incredibly proud of their hard work and loved having the opportunity to put all of their learning into practice.<\/p>\n This project has developed a huge range of skills including communication, teamwork, organisation, problem-solving, creativity and confidence.<\/p>\n This week, we also enjoyed our annual Sports Day<\/strong>. The children showed fantastic enthusiasm, determination and sportsmanship throughout the event.<\/p>\n They encouraged one another, celebrated successes and demonstrated many of the qualities we have spoken about throughout the year, including resilience, teamwork and respect.<\/p>\n This week, we enjoyed watching a special concert performed by the older classes, showcasing the music and performances they had been working on as part of the recent music festival.<\/p>\n The children thoroughly enjoyed the performance and loved seeing the confidence, talent and hard work on display. It was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate music and creativity across the school and to support the older pupils as they shared their achievements.<\/p>\n
