\ud83c\udf1f Primary 3\/4 Weekly Round-Up \u2013 Term 4, Week Two<\/h2>\n

\u270f\ufe0f Literacy<\/h3>\n

This week in literacy, our spelling focus has been the soft \u2018g\u2019 sound<\/strong>. We have also introduced Sumdog spelling<\/strong>, which the children have been using in class and can continue to practise at home as part of their homework.<\/p>\n

Our writing this week has continued with our exciting Magical Door theme<\/strong>. The children arrived to find part of the classroom had been turned upside down<\/strong>, with the suggestion that gravity had been switched off when the magical door opened!\u00a0 Mrs Teale had had a traumatic morning when the gravity had gone off and\u00a0 great hilarity followed when they saw\u00a0 the photo Miss Hunter took of her floating around the classroom(and yes, it’s been added to the blog images as per the children’s request!)It has created lots of excitement and curiosity across the school this week.<\/p>\n

Using images and discussion prompts, the children wrote imaginative pieces about what might happen if gravity was turned off<\/strong>, describing objects floating and unusual events taking place. Alongside this, they also created fact files about gravity<\/strong>, learning about how it works in real life. This learning has been linked to the Global Goals<\/strong>, particularly thinking about how our world works and how we can care for it.<\/p>\n

We also continued developing our comprehension skills<\/strong> using Story Blast, with a focus on understanding and responding to texts.<\/p>\n

\n

\ud83c\udf0d Global Learning<\/h3>\n

This week we also celebrated Earth Day<\/strong>. We read the story Michael Recycle<\/em> and created some beautiful artwork linked to caring for the environment<\/strong>. This tied in well with our ongoing focus on the Global Goals<\/strong>, encouraging the children to think about how they can help look after our planet.<\/p>\n

\n

\ud83d\udd22 Maths<\/h3>\n

In maths, we have continued our work on fractions<\/strong>. This week we explored fractions of amounts<\/strong>, using practical resources such as pom-poms and counters to help us visualise and understand how to find fractions of a group. The children are developing a good understanding of how fractions apply in real-life contexts.<\/p>\n

\ud83d\udcbb ICT<\/h3>\n

In ICT, we continued our research projects<\/strong> using the Kiddle search engine<\/strong>. The children have been developing their skills in safe searching<\/strong> and using key words to find information. They are now working towards turning their research into PowerPoint presentations<\/strong>, which they will present to the class.<\/p>\n

\n

\ud83c\udf73 Topic \u2013 Building a Business<\/h3>\n

As part of our topic \u201cBuilding a Business Together,\u201d<\/strong> we have continued developing our caf\u00e9 project. This week, we explored different job roles and responsibilities<\/strong> within a caf\u00e9 and discussed what makes a caf\u00e9 run successfully. We also looked at the different skills and abilities each job role would require.<\/p>\n

\n

\ud83c\udf70 Wider Learning<\/h3>\n

On Monday afternoons, we have been enjoying baking sessions with Miss Farmer<\/strong> as part of our caf\u00e9 topic. This week the children made tiffin<\/strong>, following a recipe and working together in groups.<\/p>\n

While some groups were baking, others worked with Mrs Teale on Story Blast comprehension tasks<\/strong>, ensuring everyone had the opportunity to develop both practical and literacy skills.<\/p>\n

\n

\ud83e\udd63 Health & Wellbeing<\/h3>\n

This week we took part in a Healthy Living Breakfast<\/strong> in the hall, where the children had the opportunity to try a range of foods and discuss what makes a healthy breakfast<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

We also began our RSHP lessons<\/strong>, with a focus on keeping our bodies clean. \u00a0helping to build confidence and understanding in important areas of health and wellbeing.<\/p>\n

\n

It has been another busy and exciting week, with lots of creativity, teamwork and curiosity across all areas of learning!<\/p>\n
