\ud83c\udf1f Primary 3\/4 Weekly Round-Up \u2013 Term 3, Week Ten<\/h2>\n

\u270f\ufe0f Literacy & Writing<\/h3>\n

Our spelling sound this week was \u2018ai\u2019<\/strong>. Our writing was inspired by The Scarecrow\u2019s Wedding<\/em><\/strong> by Julia Donaldson. We zoomed in on the crows in the story<\/strong>, imagining what they might have been up to and using adjectives, adverbs, and punctuation<\/strong> to make our writing more descriptive.<\/p>\n

We also looked at a non-fiction fact file about scarecrows<\/strong>, learning about the difference between fiction and non-fiction<\/strong> texts.<\/p>\n

On Friday we used Play-Doh<\/strong> to explore sentence structure and punctuation<\/strong> in a hands-on way. The children created punctuation marks and used them to build sentences while listening to a short story about a Viking who liked icing<\/strong>, which made the activity both creative and memorable.<\/p>\n

\ud83d\udd22 Maths<\/h3>\n

In maths we continued developing our understanding of the jump strategy<\/strong>, this time applying it to subtraction<\/strong>. The children practised moving along number lines and explaining their thinking as they solved problems.<\/p>\n

We also continued exploring ordinal numbers<\/strong> and introduced fractions<\/strong>, using Play-Doh to model and divide shapes into equal parts. This practical approach helped the children visualise halves and quarters more clearly.<\/p>\n

\ud83c\udf0d Topic \u2013 People Who Help Us<\/h3>\n

Our topic work continued this week with a focus on emergency services<\/strong>. The children learned about how to make a 999 call<\/strong> and took part in role play activities where they practised being both the caller and the call handler<\/strong>. This helped them understand what information is important in an emergency situation.<\/p>\n

\ud83c\udfad Assembly Preparation<\/h3>\n

We are nearly ready for our Maths Spectacular Assembly<\/strong> next week. This week we finished creating our props<\/strong>, tried on costumes<\/strong>, and continued rehearsing our lines and drama scenes. The children are working very hard and are excited to perform.<\/p>\n

\ud83d\udc09 Wider Learning<\/h3>\n

On Friday we had a special visit from the SMUHA Vikings<\/strong>, who were in great voice and brought lots of energy and excitement to the morning. In the afternoon we held our own galley burning ceremony<\/strong>, linking to the local traditions.<\/p>\n
