Music and Musical Instruments (Monday)

We did some stretching to get us warmed up for music.  Then it was time to sing Pop Goes the Weasel.  The bairns took turns to play instruments in time with the pop.  We moved around the hall, listening for the changing notes and then practised for our graduation ceremony.  On their way back to nursery, the bairns had a turn with the Zen bowl.

We attended an instrument showcase for the whole school and found out about stringed, woodwind, percussion and brass instruments.  The bairns listened and gave their ideas when asked.  The musicians spoke about the parts of their instruments and where you might hear them.

Outdoor Play (Monday-Friday)

With all the new nursery babies on the way, the bairns have been interested in caring for their own babies.  We set up a baby bathing station outside with jugs for rinsing and towels for drying off.  The bairns also made a very impressive obstacle course on the path.  They had to slow down to climb over the cable drums due to the steep slope.  We took a trip to the playpark and the bairns took turns on the new nursery scooters.  We spoke about how to stay safe while scooting. “You have to wear a helmet or you might fall off and bump your head.”

Fluoride Varnishing (Monday)

Childsmile visited on Monday to apply fluoride varnishing to the bairns’ teeth.  They were given sunglasses to wear and asked to open wide for the varnish to be applied.  “It tasted like ‘nanas!”

Buddies (Tuesday)

The pre-schoolers teamed up with their buddies again this week and headed out during morning break.  Chasing games have been popular but the bairns didn’t make it easy to catch them!

P1 Classroom Visit (Wednesday)

During the classroom visit, the bairns explored the resources, listened to Miss Hunter and did a literacy activity, based on the letter S, to draw a snake.

Library Van (Tuesday) and Bookbug (Wednesday)

We returned our borrowed books to the library van and picked out a few more to read at nursery.  The bairns chose a pop-up book and a couple of books with animals.  We had a visit from Claire and Bookbug.  We sat out in the garden and sang nursery rhymes, listened to a story about penguins and pulled on the stretchy blanket before the peas went pop!

Play and Learning (Monday-Friday)

Here is a selection of the remainder of our play and learning from the week.  The bairns have emptied and refilled the sand pit in the last couple of weeks.  We always have great helpers for snack.  The bairns have created origami butterflies and rubber band powered butterflies.
